This man had the balls to do live trading during a news report in front of a camera crew and journalists that would potentially be shown publicly to millions. How many KZbin gurus would be able to handle that? I think they would refuse in a risk of being exposed as mere marketers of trading. This man is built different. He is the real deal. And actually changes the lives of traders like me.

I only "Know" this guy for 2 days, but he has given me more valuable advice/insight in his videos than I've got from so-called gurus in the past 8 years altogether. It was such a well-balanced video. Making a lot of money, then losing a lot, uncertainty, hard work, and the constant battle with the monkey mind :-). it was good to see this after a losing day haha. Thanks, Tom for showing the realities of the trader's life.

APPRECIATE THE HONESTY ! ONE THING INSTEAD, TRADING IS NOT ABOUT MONEY, THEY ARE A RESULT... TRADING IS ABOUT HOW MUCH YOU CAN CATCH AS A MOVEMENT, AS POINTS, PIPS, FROM THAT PARTICULAR EXTENSION OF THE PRICE... IF YOU STOP BECAUSE OF THE MONEY, YOU STOP THE REAL THING IN TRADING AND ORIENTATE ON THE MONEY, ACTUALLY GAINING LESS IN THE END...

Nice honest video. What I don't understand is that a lot of this is about 'feeling' which way the market is goin to go, wishing it was going his way etc. Yet in other videos Tom talks about not even really thinking or being emotionally invested... just having a system and trading it in a disciplined manner knowing you will be wrong some times. No mention of that here.
@TraderTom3 жыл бұрын
I think you are making a valid point. When I agreed to the interview, I had no real idea what would transpire. I was taken out of my normal routine because everything had to be planned and coordinated. It may look spontaneous, but even the skipping scene is planned. The running scene in the sand is planned too - to my detriment. I had run 10km in the sand, and it was not even 6am yet. The camera man made go back a mile and run towards them again. I was blitzed by then. Then when it came to the trading, I decided to go for a longer day play. I had a good idea the market would fall that day, but I also accepted the risk of it not going down immediately. I ended up with a huge day, but one which had a fair degree of volatility as well. I think it made for good TV although it may not have been what I wanted to portray to an audience as a mentor. Being down 500k to end up 2m is a nice result, but perhaps not the most insightful perspective of my trading. I hope that helps. Good night.

Wowww what a video, lots of gold and nuggets dropped by Tom, thank you :) Even though most of those points I already know, but somehow those words on documentary format (instead of seminar/podcast) struck me differently, maybe because his situation was as real as it can get from daily life of traders. Some key points that I got : - The emotional pressure lies in the fact that our minds want to feel good, our brain hates uncertainty. As a trader you have to fight your humanness, in order to do what is right. Normal behavior will make you beaten by the market badly. - A good trader knows this : to be a good trader it means to be good at being uncomfortable, to the point as if you feel comfortable even though your positions are under water, the profits may disappear, it may reappear, within minutes. Get used to being hopeful after fearful, being fearful after hopeful, multiple times a day, it's the only way to survive in this game. - You need to have an ability to separate your emotions from the outcome, to get what you want. I believe you need to be able to keep cool, calm, composed, and control where your thoughts lead you, you can and should train that aspect of your game.

- Fear is a much stronger emotion than hope, that's why market tend to fall much quicker than they rise. I prefer to make my money on the short side, because I tend to meet my profit targets much quicker on the short side than on the long side. It is fear that stops people from making money - not ability to trade the markets. - I'm able to withstand the emotional pressure and stress from trading, much better when I work out frequently. Trading is a game of MIND and BODY. Often the mind gives up before the body, our mind tend to produce imaginary limits before the actual limit of our bodies get tapped for real. So when we regularly forcing our body to go beyond the limit (that you have in your mind), then you also will train your mentality, which is the most crucial aspect on trading. - This is where 90% of traders have it wrong : they are slow to take losses but fast to take profits. You have to be pretty ruthless with the trades that do not work out, even though it may have work out 10 minutes later. Take the loss, accept it, move on, be ready for the next trade.

- Important mentality to have : I prefer to win, but I don't mind losing. There are days where everything you trade turns into gold, then there are days where everything falls apart in front of you. - Don't marry your bias and be stubborn about it : Tom's reading of market when Covid hit was right, he predicted the crash, then he read the situation wrong, the whole world closed down but the markets keep moving higher and higher, doesn't make sense. Ride the waves as long as it's still working, and when it's not working anymore then get off even though the market behave against logic and seems like it doesn't make sense. Don't trade against the wave because markets can move irrational longer than we can remain sane. - When the markets looks like defying gravity, dump it, take time to digest and assess the situation cool headed, because markets are never wrong. There might be hidden reasons from the other side of the story that actually justify why the market behave like that, which we didn't aware and could think of when we are still on the trade. Then decide whether it's better just to be flat, re-enter the position, or take U-turn of bias and trade against the initial direction.

@@damblebee1253 Thank you for the comments - I really like to see when people reflect on what's being presented. Kinda what is my own take away what can I learn ...Or a big size trader also have to fight with the issues you and I fight with. So again Thank you not only for watching but more for thinking. 👍

@@LennieClausen_dk My pleasure Lennie, I should be the one who thank you both :D , actually I wrote for my personal notes, but why not share it. I've only seen about 10 of Tom's live trading videos, and couple others from post recorded videos and his seminar from other channels. And I've seen many trading youtubers from forex, indices, crypto, stock, like many of them, and for me by far Tom is the most real and as close as it can get from our everyday routines. Actually for me I prefer he teaches his knowledge this way, drop some 5-10 minutes gems occasionally in between 1-2 hours live trading sessions. IMO this way it can filter the people who are really serious and patience to pick his brain on daily basis, and people who only want instant knowledge from compact 30-40 minutes full strategy/setup videos. I think this would result in small group of circle, but filled with like minded people who are really serious to pursue the trading career. Quality over quantity. But of course once in a while strategy/psychology video from his arsenal of presentations, or post trades detailed breakdown is very welcomed :)
