The same thing happened to me! I was at the nursery and there was a small snipet lying on the table top. I picked it up to save it. When I went to pay for my items, I told the cashier that it was all by itself on the table, she said okay so off I went with it. It was about a 3" piece. I rooted it in water and now it's in a small pot and doing well so far, it's only been about 3 weeks.

Really like your videos. Appreciate the love of plants not the trendy. I’m lucky here in zone 7 in the US, I have the pallida species called Purple Heart growing as a border plant, I walk around breaking the stems and just shoving them into the ground and have a beautiful thick hedge. They die back in the winter but come back every spring. ✌🏼🪴

Thank you Becca! I appreciate your kind comment. Tradescantia are quite resiliant plents, if it's not happy its probably too much water or not enough, if you have been watering it regularly try leaving it to dry out a bit and see if that helps, if you have let it get a little dry then maybe some more water miught cheer it up. Good luck and please do let me know how its doing. :-)

@@HouseplantHacks Thank you so much sir! what I did was get them new soil, pot and just started pocking the good ones out and putting them in the new pot with fresh soil. also moved them from where they were and put them near a window for sunlight. (heard they like light too) Hopefully it works! Thank you again for taking the time to answer back for the tips and for the good luck wish! Greatly appreciate. will keep you posted on how they're doing :-) if it worked or not.

@@beccarodriguez77 So sorry Becca, don't be too sad, these things can happen, sometimes the plant is already sick by the time you buy it, things happen slowly with plants and its not always obvious what is wrong. Don't be too hard on yourself its just part of the learning process and there will be more successes than failures I'm sure. What part of the world are you in Becca?

My simple, humble tip for growing them is: NO. I mean yes. I mean they WILL grow, don't be sad if it is not where you want them to grow. Every year my ones become massive, endure full sunlight and summer heat, stay healthy even during the first frosty days of winter...but they NEVER do that in the pot where I put them. From my pots they just escape and search for a new home. Because ANYWHERE is better than in my pot. Last year they invaded my Aji White Fantasy and they both wait now for frost free days.

Im currently working on one in a hanging basket that looks dead and dried out close to the pot, but looks great (and is growing wildly) further down the trailing limbs. Its like a thick mass of healthy plants trailing out of a pot that appears to have dead plants in it.

I had a tree fall on my house yesterday (no major damage, so lucky) anyway, a few days before I had set my wj on the porch steps and it was decimated by that tree, I trimmed up stems that didn't get completely crushed and go limp in a glass jar of water. I'm hoping I can save it.

@HouseplantHacks3 жыл бұрын
Glad to have you as a subscriber Risha! Thank you for your lovely comment! Tradescantia as super easy to keep and very robust so you can use anything you like for the soil really, if you have perlite I would add some in as it helps get oxygen to the roots and helps drainage but if you don't have any to hand I wouldn't worry too much. If you keep them regularly watered they will do just fine! ;-)

Nice video, thanks. I really would have liked to see how much a little water is. My Tradescantia has been on the verge off death ever since I received it as a healthy plant. I've been trimming it appropriately, taking cuttings and then popping them in the pot as you demonstrated but the cuttings have rotted. Is it better to bottom water? I have another lot of cuttings, which I've rooted in water and will put in a different pot but would like some advice on the watering if possible. Thanks again (I'm in London)
@HouseplantHacks3 жыл бұрын
It could be that your soil is too heavy and retaining too much water? Tradescantia is usually very easy to propagate from cuttings so something muct be wrong if they are rotting and I would guess too much water. Does it take a long time for the soil to dry out? On your other point about how much is a little.. my latest video is all about watering so this may help also.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oqSrfnx4ZbSmpq8
