If i put 20k in a fund, my years allowance, lets say after a few months i made 2k could I withdraw some funds to invest again into a different fund or is this classed as going over my years allowance? 2. When creating a pie you have to select the percentage of each investment, can you just add to each investment individually within the pie rather than paying into the pie and letting it distribute the amount you pay in

I'm 18, just started long-term investing by putting £300 monthly into ETF's (will rise as my salary does). Currently, 50% of that is in the Vanguard S&P 500 (dist), 25% in Berkshire Hathaway (Class B) and 25% in INVESCO NASDAQ 100 (disc). Is this a solid portfolio? Should I incorporate or swap out for the FTSE 100 or another ETF? Thanks
@genomicsANDeconomics2 ай бұрын
It's a good portfolio. heavy on the US with a lot of overlap between Nasdaq and S&P500. You might want to consider a global index like (eg. Vanguard all world) or a Global -exUSA to provide some diversification. There will be times when US tech stocks dip -20% in a year (see 2022). As long as you're cool with that and can hold and continue investing monthly through that for longterm (>5 yrs), you will be happy with your choices.

How did you invest £20k and import £45k from you HL account into the T212 in the same financial year? I thought you could only put £20k max a year into the ISA? Or have I misunderstood something?
@marcwareham93512 ай бұрын
You can transfer from a ISA you already have without it effecting your allowance. He imported the funds.
@neilinvests2 ай бұрын
Yeah, ISA rules can be confusing. So the £20k limit is for cash deposits. However you are allowed to transfer in old ISA's because technically their limit was also £20k, but just in a previous year. You're simply consolidating the accounts into 1, just like you could with a pension.

Not sure about your thought on your Rolls Royce investment. Great gains, however, this is now your money, if it goes to 0, you lose the £2,230 it is worth. You should be reevaluating your investments constantly to see if they are worth what you have invested in it right now. If you think it’s overvalued, you should be banking all of the investment and putting it elsewhere (in my opinion).
