Great job Hugh! I like your idea about paying for 1 month of FT4 subscription service & downloading everything you can, and then cancelling the subscription. Up until I watched this video, I had reverted back to my FT3 because the data is free.

Dude backtesting on one timeframe is easy with moving average crossover. You can also do it with trading view free without line charts, but it's from Daily to Monthly TF candles. The real way testing a FX strategy is by going through top down analysis from higher TF and entering in a lower TF. You would need a split window screen, that's the advantage with having these paid testers and tradingview premium. Personally i use tradingview(free) daily tf replay and mt4 1 hr tf to execute, and manually put data on excel manually. Can be a long tedious proccess but doable! Great vid!

It's very helpful. What would be a nice addition is a table (or tables) at the end with the rankings for the different categories. As you go through them that is. It's hard to keep it all in mind.

Nice evaluation! As a Soft4Fx user the main drawback is that it does not take into account your account currency. So if trading USDJPY you have to select either one of those currencies to be your account currency. My account is in GBP so this would mean manually converting every trade after the test is finished. I would expect that this effect would cancel out over a large enough data sample but effectively you have 3 currencies involved in the trade while it is open. I am not sure what Forex Tester 4.0 does, if it gets round this issue would be nice but has to integrate with MT4 for me so I can use my preferred Indicators.

Yeah, Soft4FX rough around the edges. The way to get around this is to track your results in percentages and R multiples. The things that really matter are win rate, % return per year, % risk per trade, etc...which don't depend on the specific currency. Forex Tester allows you to use your preferred account currency for any currency pair. Hope your testing is going well!

@@TradingHeroes These are good measures but like I say your profit on a single trade would have to be converted to your account currency and that rate could have gone against you whilst your trade was open. This actually means a spreadbet account has an advantage as conversion does not come into play.

Hi I have bought throu your link the forex tester 4 and you mention in the video that we can download the data , my issue here is its like the platform permit to keep only 1 broker data at a time so if i download 1 data from fxcm and 1 from pepperstone for example i need to export the data of each broker on a txt file before downloading the next, could you tell me if i m right as i would like to pay for the data during 1 month only, appreciate your help and the quality video you make :)

Thanks! Yes, you can only load 1 broker's data per pair at a time. So exporting is a good idea if you don't want to subscribe long term.

Different data sets give different results. That's why it's important to test.

And, you had gotten such a wide difference in both the length of the test (2:07:16) and the number of trades taken (102). You had said, iirc, that you were not sure what caused that difference; I am asking if that 9/50 MA setting was an error that was the cause.

No. Different software can use different historical data sets from different brokers. So the quotes will be slightly different. The key is to develop a strategy that's robust enough to work on any data set.

I didn't have the option available for this test. You can see it in the video. It's available for paid, but not there for the free version. If you signed up before, they may have grandfathered in the feature.
