I went to Cabela's and was encouraged to get the heaviest bow I could draw 45 lb for a newbie was way too much. I very much enjoy shooting bow and went and got a lighter bow elsewhere. He didn't even sell me the correct arrows for the poundage of my bow. Thanks for the tips and tricks
@rogerd.miller10957 жыл бұрын
Some good info. My wife and I recently took up traditional archery. I bought a Samick Sage with a 30# draw thinking that we could both learn on it. That 30# draw proved to be more than my wife could handle comfortably, so I bought her a PSE takedown in 20# draw weight. The beauty of these take down bows, as you expressed, is that as we both get stronger I can put my 30# limbs on her bow and buy a set of 40# limbs for my bow. This is an incredibly cost effective way to advance in the sport. I also appreciate that you are not dogmatic in "aiming" concepts. We have chosen to pursue the more instinctive, or better intuitive, model of the sport. I also appreciate that after you have purchased your bows and arrows and other kit, we can go out into our back yard and shoot until we're too tired, at no cost. We love going to the shooting range, but with range fees, ammo, and travel time, we just don't get to do it very often. Unless it's raining, we can put arrows down range anytime. This is such a great sport.

I love the advice here. When I was welding I had a few great teachers. The best one said this. Learn how to set up, learn your metallurgy, learn your machine. Develop your muscle memory and develop fixtures to help. Learn everything you can from different welders in methods and style. Fill your knowledge bag up, shake it all up and develop what works best for you. Then.... every minute of every shift on every set up and bead, try to make it better than the last one. It'll take you 3 months to be passable and basic. A year or two to be good. 5 years to be proficient. And 15 to 20 to be great. The next 15 years I worked on everything from structural steel, aerospace titanium, and submarine vessels. I'm hoping I can develop my archery a little faster.

Started with a 15# longbow at 7 years old. Switched to 30# longbow at 10 years old. After 3 years of rabbits I purchased a 45# Indian Archery longbow to use on Catskill Mountain whitetails. Now I use a 50# reflex-deflex longbow. I have always shot "off the shelf" or knuckle. I will admit trying out compound bows with sights but that didn't last very long. My newest interest is Asian (Korean) style bamboo horse bows and bamboo arrows. My longbows will still get used and I will still make a few Juniper longbows but am really enjoying my new bamboo horse bow.

Split finger or Three under is a personal choice. You will find what works best for you. As for only shooting 3 arrows a day.. Well I would shoot at least 30 working my way up to 100 a day. Work on your draw and release the rest will take care of itself. Remember to have fun and keep shooting. Keep in touch and let me know how your doing. So my husband bought me a beginner's bow for Christmas and I finally had a chance to shoot it this past weekend (you weren't kidding about the archer's tattoo, btw!). The thing is, it has a shelf for the arrow to sit on, but the arrows have plastic veins, not feather fletching. Is there a particular reason it might come with the "incorrect" type of arrows, and would it be better to get some that have feathers instead?
