Thank you for this clear explaination of the tridition of the talking stick. This year, with my grandchildren, I hope to create a specail talking stick that we will reserve just for our Christmas stories. A new tradition for us, rooted in one that will guide us on how to respect and revere it over time.

A wise, wise tradition. Would be most useful at the presidential debates this year.

That was lovely thank you . I'm going to think about bringing it into our family. A terrific tradition and one we should all have.

Great talk. Life is intertwined with all living things and connected and part, of all things, living or not. The respect gained from teachings such as these are valuable for all human life, and a part of understanding all things. Thank you for taking the time to speak about the different methods these sticks and staffs were used for. It was very eye-opening and very interesting to listen to. I really enjoyed watching this video.

Thank you for connecting me to your presentation. I was familiar with using the Talking Stick as I had learned about it here in Sault Ste. Marie to be used in our classrooms. What is new to me here is the initial response to the first talker. That part I hadn't learned... and NOW it feels more on track. Before, we were taught to use it as a turn-taking exercise... not for deeper communication. I like this much better.

I thought I knew what this entailed, the notion that it’s about understanding vs a back and forth where theres two separate things being said is astounding. Also the additions to commemorate a resolved conflict sounded very encouraging, hope this does some good, thank you

Good morning Olga. So this morning I was looking at website templates to help promote my new steps into EOL care. I found one that I liked. Testing out the features of the template brought me to this presentation of yours! What are the chances of this? I too have used a talking stick then later a talking rock while raising my family. A friend of mine at the time, Wanda Big Canoe shared this tool with me. Nice presentation.

An incident in Hyda-Gwy, Qween Charlotte Islands, B.C. Canada. A government official explained how he was given a Hyda talking stick, When it was taken off the wall, And handed to him, He took it as a gift, And kept it.

Are this rules of playing with talking stick or it just happens when u have talking stick in someone's hand!!! Can you please answer this!?

the talking stick is a communication tool. There is a back and forth that occurs to enable better understanding.

Afrien Sk When a person holds the talking stick it is there time to either talk or sit quietly and prepare their words for talking. Silence is welcome as we strive to not just speak, but speak with wisdom, clarity, and brevity. When the person with the stick is finished speaking, the next person who would like to speak raises their hand and the talking stick is passed to them. Those who do not hold the talking stick focus on deep listening and refrain from speaking.

@@afriensk1386 no. They carry no ill will. Just respect its meaning. I was also taught to spin it counter clockwise when passing it to represent respect for past knowledge and wisdom.
