Yes I loved many aspects of Japan but the food sure wasn’t one of them!!! Although it is worth noting it’s super healthy - the population isn’t 50% obese like it is here!!

Japan is extraordinary and very beautiful once you are away from the larger cities. It's a pity you didn't get to walk that vine bridge. When touring in Vietnam many years ago I rode over a suspension bridge that looked like it was made by a scrap wire collector. Out of a motorcycle tour group of 20, only 2 or 3 of us were prepared to ride over and back. It was the most Indiana Jones moment imaginable.

Japan is actually about 70% forest, (and mountainous at that), which makes for wonderful bike touring. The cities are quite densely populated as a result. An inspired choice to begin the tour in Shikoku, one of the least hectic areas.

For some reason I couldn't hear anything thru my headset, but yet there was sound when I pulled out the headset jack, a mystery. Never mind, looks like a good trip, a perfect excuse to ride a motorcycle. I love Japanese food, if I had to eat a single cuisine for the rest of my life I think it would be Japanese. Exploring through food and customs is really great I'm not sure if I asked you if you tried Norwegian porridge, Rømmegrøt. on your tour there? Or ever ate a meal that featured finger bowls to bathe your fingers but not to drink? Which utensil to use and when, with a plate setting that has almost a dozen or more utensils. Two things that I've heard about and have NO DESIRE TO EVEN TRY, are that soup made from a birds nest in China (yanwo?) or Rocky Mountain Oysters. There is a lot I will try, at least once, for the most part. Taste, feel and smell is always so subjective and I applaud you willingness to try it all. Really liked the scenery of the "UFO Road". Your thoughts on your meal probably mirrored what mine would have been. :) I'm such a westerner when it comes to food. I like my food cooked. I'm not a fan of sushi or raw anything. I don't even like my eggs runny. Sure, I experiment from time to time (which is to say rarely), but for the most part ....give me a nice cooked dinner. As for the ride - brilliant views, nice roads. I simply love your wife ...ummm ...not in a romantic way mind you!!!!!!! :) You two are so good on camera together. Not that you needed me to tell you that. :) Cheers!

I will never forget my granduncle's ninetieth birthday. He invited us to a Japanese restaurant near his place in Stuttgart. I had a lovely lunch, a good pot of chicken soup with noodles. The others had life-altering experiences according to the expressions on their faces. ☺ One might say I chickened out off that. The country's landscapes are breathtaking beauties, though! 🤩

Riding Hokkaido in summer would maybe top it all Andy! Got to visit a mate there back in 2000 but it was March and tons of snow - the snowmobile riding was pretty cool though!!! Japan's 'garden' and full of lakes and mountains - but no temples unfortunately! Had a great time - people wonderful - even slept through a 6.7 earthquake to the north of the island!!!! Sorry - Squid are too close to Octopus for me to contemplate deep frying….and the Japanese are pretty good at tempura so I think it highly likely deep fat fryers have made it there….

Compared to my eating habits Andy you are a Gourmet!! I stick with what I like and would be even happier if I could just take a couple of pills a day and miss out on the eating thing altogether!! It just wastes time that I could be spending doing things!! Great tour so far roll on next week!! 😄

😅I think it’s safe to say, some of us men prefer a hearty T-Bone steak or a rack of ribs or something that’s not going to need dental instruments to dissect first. I would lose my appetite with those chop sticks. I would just ask for regular cutlery and be done with it. 😂😅
