The day I was waiting for - seeing little Max enjoying good food! What a darling!!! Coming from St Louis (who has the last Little Italy in the USA) and marrying an Italian I have been very fortunate to eat some of the best of Italy without leaving home. I judge Italian restaurants on their Eggplant Parmesan. Oh my goodness, their desserts are to die for🍰🍧🥧!
@cooking-the-world2 жыл бұрын
He is very skeptical when trying new foods:) not sure if that’s normal;) oh, in this case I probably didn’t show you anything new! Hope it was still fun to Watch!
@beckysimeone48822 жыл бұрын
@@cooking-the-world I think little ones being skeptical about new foods is very common. My 3 yr old grandson, Santino, studies everything carefully and if it doesn't look right to him says "Nope" and absolutely refuses to try it. But when they like something they use every facial muscle and their joy is very evident.

i'm envious of you folks for all the awesome italian foods you got to try! i didn't know balsamic vinegar is aged that long. learn something new everyday 😊
@cooking-the-world2 жыл бұрын
I also didn't know. Although balsamico dressing is one of my favourite once;) Real balsamic vinegar is made from a reduction of pressed Trebbiano and Lambrusco grapes, therefore is nice and thick and pricy ;) I also found out that those thick balsamico sugar creams are only produced to imitate the real deal, because it also is sweet and sour.

I was planning to make a day trip to Bologna but looks like I'll have to stay a couple of days😋. Those pastries near the end of your video look so yummy! Can you share the name of the pastry shop where you guys ate the Torta di Riso? I definitely want to try it when I visit Bologna next year.

Hi, thanks for watching and commenting. Yes, if you are as crazy about food as we are few days would be good. We didnt want to leave! So I checked on my iphone the address to you and it was in Pasticceria D'Azeglio. The desserts were pretty pricy, but they had all regional and Italian specialities. And tít was great that those were so small, because we were able to try more different once which is always a plus for traditional food lovers.

Everything look wonderful. Yes, the fresh noodles make the difference. As for balsamic vinegar, I have taken a similar tour. Two best dishes I know, roasted balsamic honey Brussels sprouts and roasted chicken with balsamic sauce and salad. Simple but the flavor comes out. Glad your trip went well, nothing beats being home. Max is getting bigger and I think he enjoyed the trip.
@cooking-the-world2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tips! Both look extreamly tasty. Good that I still have some brussels sprouts in my freezer:) yes, Max seems to be fine wherever we go. As soon as one of us is around is all fine 😃 this is tiring, but sweet at the same time.

@beckysimeone48822 жыл бұрын
But which lasagna? In the states we go for the one with Ricotta cheese and Beef Ragu, but there are t least 6 traditional types of Lasagna depending on the region of Italy you are in. My husbands Sicilian family made the traditional one from there, which has Eggplant. There are also many variations. In Rome they make one of my favorites, which has Spinach and Bechamel sauce. Every one I have tried has been a winner
@mark971-e8g Жыл бұрын
@@beckysimeone4882 you're right, in Italy we tend to define lasagna as Bolognese but there are also more than 6. They make the same mistake with Genovese pesto. my wife (we are from bologna) in addition to the classic one, makes one with a porcini cream base, fried bacon cut into julien strips. wonderful

This was amazing. Grew up in Chicago a few blocks from the original little Italy. Went to restaurants there that had photos of people like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis and the rest of the Rat pack. Loved dishes with ragu and Bolognese sauce. Got recipes for an amazing lasagna and other dishes from Bruna's still open since 1933.

Greetings! I am a fan of all European food and loved this video in particular. I am Pennsylvania Deutch (German American) 🇩🇪 and have visited Germany but never Italy. My last name Balsbach is originally from Baden Wurtenburg and family from both sides emigrated to Pennsylvania from Germany in the 1700s, though unfortunately my generation is the first to not speak German because of discrimination in the US during the World Wars. Though there are many here in South Central Pennsylvania. particularly the Amish and Mennonites who still speak Deutch. My parenrs were members of a German Brethren Church growing up. Our cuisine in my region and other parts of the country is often a mix of German and American traditions. However when I was in my early 20s, I lived in San Francisco, California. Most of the Italians in Pennsylvania and the Northeastern US are from Southern Italy such as Sicily and Naples, however the immigration Califirnia was from Northern Italy 🇮🇹. I am a trained chef and my first culinary job was a chain of Italian Import Shops and delicatessens in the San Francisco Bay Area. The family that owned it was from Emilia Romagna, and your video made me realize how authentic the foods we sold there were. Items like the Torta di Chocolate, Crostata, Lasagna Bolognese, Tortellini/Tortalone, Taglatelle, Ragu Bologese, Balsamic Vinegar, Prosciutto Di Parma, Parmigiano Regiano, and Mortadella really took me back to that time and place. in my memory I can still remember the flavors and smells. Keep up the posts, I love seeing your family's travels in Germany and abroad. if I ever make it to Frankfurt I will purchase your walking food tour from online! Cheers! Mike PS As an American my favorite Italian dish has to be Pizza 🍕

Oh.. Thanks for this wonderful comment, I am very flattered and glad that this video brought back so many nice memories. I did mention all those foods indeed. Nice that you also have access to those, because the are truly delicious. And I get it - pizza is unbeatable. Although I heard that Americans have got few ways of making them, right?
@mikeandstephanie1982 жыл бұрын
@@cooking-the-world Yes we have made pizza our own, and there are many different varieties of it in the United States. Pizza is a highly regional thing but also varies from cook to cook. My favorite pizzas are thin and crispy, with just the right balance of ingredients, and a little char on the crust.

Have you ever noticed that when you go out to eat, you analyze dishes, especially those you like, wanting to recreate them later for yourself? Favorite Italian dish? I couldn't even think of going there. There's too many excellent that I couldn't pick a specific one. One thing though that stands out is the quality of pasta in Italy. It's just better if original Italian hand-made. Btw, nice to see some of Max, he's sure has grown. I know he can be troublesome at that age. But, if you're like me, you'll look back at this time as some of the best years.
