Hi Mark, Thanks for covering Tibet and I have been following your series with great interest. Your passion, respect and love of Tibetan culture is much appreciated. To respond to your question. This boutique hotel you were staying is former estate house or temple of one of two tutors of HH Dalai Lama, Trichang Labrang, who were greatly revered by Tibetans. We stayed there a few years ago as well. So you are truly blessed!. I can understand why you can’t or don’t say Dalai Lama’s name there who is omnipresent and the biggest elephant in the room no one talks about but it’s in every Tibetans heart. Oh there used to very popular Indian, Nepalese restaurant in this hotel called Namaste and they serve amazing breakfast -:). Thuk Je Che (thank you in Tibetan) Mark.

Start taking them about 2 days prior to being at elevation, and continue to take it as prescribed, and you can prevent or reduce the effects of being at high altitude. It would make things much more comfortable for you.. 😎

Hi Mark, I came across your KZbin by searching Thailand - a favorite location for me - and I’ve now I’ve become a fan of your show. But I was very surprised to see you went to Tibet. I was myself born in Lhasa and grew up near that “hotel” you were staying at. It is actually the traditional residence of a great Tibetan lama. The last one, Trichang Rinpoche, was a brilliant figure of the twentieth century and one of the two personal tutors of the current 14th Dalai Lama. He had an immense impact on modern Tibetan history. Other traditional buildings like that were destroyed under Chinese rule, but this one managed to survive because it became the headquarters for the government unit for cinema distribution. The paintings and murals on the walls you showed us were not original to the building - they were recently painted. But the room you were staying in appeared to be originally one of the chapels. It was disturbing for me to see a bar in the middle of Trichang Rinpoche’s residence. It would even worse if no one remembered what this hallowed building once was.

I noticed the same thing about the paintings , because I have been to monasteries in Ladakh and Bhutan and those paintings (some of it) looked new and different. I feel sorry that the construction is converted for economic purposes . Love and peace from India 🙏🏻
