I had the time of my life traveling around the island of Japan back in January of 2019. It was one of the most incredible travel experiences I’ve ever had in my life. After I spent about a week exploring the cities of Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, the second leg of my trip took me to the prefectures, or states, just outside of Tokyo, which blew my mind with their natural beauty. I’m excited to show you the adventures I had there!
My day started super early at 5:45 a.m. at my mizunooto, or a mix between a traditional Japanese house, or ryokan, and a Western-style hotel. They have an onsen, or a hot spring, and provide their guests with towels for the experience, as well as a traditional robe and slippers to walk around in.
My first order of business was heading down to the private baths (I couldn’t visit the public ones because I have tattoos) before breakfast. They were occupied when I went down, so I decided to give you guys a tour of the grounds! It snowed the previous night. It looked so beautiful, even though it was freezing!
I only had a few minutes until breakfast, so I skipped the onsen and went to the same restaurant where I had the Japanese BBQ the previous night. The spread was huge!
I started by cooking my fish on the grill. While it cooked, I tried the fish cake with carrots that had been drowning in miso. It was so good! Next was some chicken and a poached egg, which I added soy sauce to. It fell apart but was still amazing!
Then I went with the Japanese omelet, which was a little sweet. Then was the salmon, which had a nice, roasted taste, and a fish sausage cake. Minced tuna with wasabi was next. The wasabi was super strong. Then I tried another fish cake and a fish wish big spines in it, vegetables, some salty bonito with sweet cream, and ginger salad, which was nice and refreshing.
The miso tofu soup was very tasty and earthy, and the tofu with soy was incredible. It had the consistence of crème brulee. There was also a custard-like dessert that was very creamy and frothy.
Then I take you back to the previous night, where I had some ramen at 10:30 p.m. The restaurant was beautiful and traditional and had a pond in the middle of it!
My ramen contained pork, seaweed, and onion and was outstanding. The noodles were thin and the broth was nice and flavorful. It was really hot, though! I loved that they do ramen at night.
After the ramen, I went outside to see the newly-fallen snow, and then went back inside to check out the gift shops, which sells lots of local products. Then it was time for a train ride. We arrived at the station and took a 30-minute ride to a town pretty close to Tokyo. The view from the train was beautiful! The trees were covered in snow and there were mountains in the distance. Then we arrived in the town!
I hope you enjoyed coming along with me for breakfast, my 10 p.m. late-night ramen dinner, and my amazing train ride through the mountains of Japan! If you did, please give this video a thumbs up, leave me a comment, and subscribe to my channel so you don’t miss any of my upcoming travel/food content!

That dish you described Tofu mix is not a Tofu dish, but called 'Chawan-mushi' , steamed egg custard, typically served with vegetable and shrimp .

David, you had a wonderful gourmet breakfast. With all the fixings that anyone could possibly want. A lot of those dishes are meant to be eaten with the rice provided. A little bite of some salty spicy tasty item and a little bite of rice is how the Japanese would eat that sort of thing. Those kinds of Japanese breakfasts, all the little items are a tiny bit salty or a tiny bit spicy in order to accompany the essentially unseasoned white rice. For future reference, the thin brown liquid with the soft boiled egg was already salty to season the egg. Hotel staff often don’t explain all of those things to foreigners. And if you wanted to add a little bit more seasoning, a tiny splash of soy sauce would’ve sufficed. I think you added a little too much… There was probably a spoon somewhere on your table or your tray that you could’ve used with the egg. It is hard to eat those eggs with chopsticks and a lot of people will just sort of drink them out of the cup as you did. I would do that as well if I couldn’t find the spoon. Some Japanese will put that egg right on the rice with no added Soy Sauce as the thin liquid is salty enough. And with the provided sea weed nori you can scoop up the egg infused rice with the Nori and it tastes very nice. The last dish that you said you liked a lot is chawan mushi - a kind of egg custard soup. Not tofu. ;-) It is too bad you couldn’t try the onsen. Maybe that place is really popular. You would’ve had to have tried the private baths at 1 AM or something like that.

"A Japanese house, which is a raykan" I think you mean a Japanese *hotel, ryokan* :) Also, that roll was fried tofu, not fish cake. You're butchering so many Japanese customs/words in every video, but I'm actually enjoying your videos because you're so positive and you're having fun with everything, even though it's all so foreign to you. I think it's cool that you try to respect and appreciate it all. I hope you visit Japan again -- so much more to explore and experience :)

Not celery, Japanese don't eat celery much. It was probably fuki - looks like celery (butterburr) Also not tofu with soy it was chawanmushi , also Ramen at night is very common because after drinking it is common to eat ramen!

To drown and rinse the towel in to the water is NOT ok and very rude. It's just to cover the "lady- / gentleman- / -parts", put it on the head is just because you have no other space. PLEASE don't give wrong advices, and read a "how to Onsen" before, they even exists with pictures 😂

@@puli1654 it's wonderfull that you'd like to know more about such things, thank you for your interest ^^ I copy paste my advice to David: To drown and rinse the towel in to the water is not ok and very rude. It's just to cover the "lady- / gentleman- / -parts" between the dressind room and the bath, put it on the head is just because you have no other space. And I'd like to add: while going to take a onsen bath, you always wash yourself before. The bath itself is just to soak in that hot water and relax, neither you should not let your hair touch the water or dive the head under water ^^ there exists easy how-to-advices even with pictures, I recommended them to David to read them first but he sure did not ^^' Have a wonderful week ^^/
