Live these boats. I wonder what a used one would cost? I used to sail a little lateen boat in Louisiana and she was very simple.

Great video! You hardly ever seen lateen sailing rigs anymore and they're some of the most beautiful out there. I have a question: When you tacked to port and the sail deformed around the mast on that tack, did you see any decreased performance in the rig or is it pretty much the same as on the starboard tack where the sail was not against the mast? Just curious. I know some lateen rigs will dip from side to side to prevent this.

Your observation is correct.....in fact there is the favourable tack (lato buono) whereby the sail takes its proper form and the less favourable tack ( al ridosso) whereby the sail form is hindered by the mast. As you pointed out some lateen rigs dip others do not, just like balanced lug rigs and dipping lug rigs.....
