Here is a simple, traditional origami sailboat that races across a table when you blow on it! It's a perfect project for beginners.
Learn to fold it by way of a delightful "story-gami"* (origami + storytelling). The story is about two friends, "Lefty" and "Righty," who climb a mountain together, but a mudslide interrupts their fun. Days later, they climb the mountain again and are able to enjoy a swim and a boat ride at the nearby lake.
You will need a square of paper. Ideally colored differently on each side, one side being white for the sails.
Original Story-gami by Michael G. LaFosse.
Narrated by Richard L. Alexander.
*Story-gami is a great way to teach origami, to learn origami, and the story may even help you to remember how to fold the origami. You can make up your own story-gami, too! It is a great way to add another layer of creativity and entertainment to the art of origami.
