Finally someone's talking about fungus in bonsai substrate/soil. Kudos!
@MiltonChang16 күн бұрын
Yeh...that is also great for mixing with soil for house plants or for growing bonsai in nursery pots.

@@MiltonChang , I use it too. Trees cannot live without them.

@@maanjezus8622 Yes, i just discovered some oaks have fungi besties. This is what comes of having friends who grow a lot of different mushrooms and fungi. Some trees have favorite fungi that they in turn provide for as well, and they need each other.

@@HollylivengoodI learned this growing the devils lettuce funny enough. The beneficial symbiotic-relationship between fungi and plants is quite fascinating and wholesome.

I had the opportunity to participate in your VIP presale… thank you for including your pot and clippers! I feel honored to show your logo in my home. Would you speak on the growth characteristics of trees with opposing leaves rather than alternating leaves, and how clip-and-grow can be applied to these types of growth patterns?

If it's a cork elm ...., could you remove some of the cork on the cascading branch, without spoiling the health of the tree ?
@MiltonChang13 күн бұрын
It won't spoil the health of the tree. Bark is to protect...we give our bonsai protection enough. I say it won;t hurt...when they remove bark for making corks year after year.

I have the least experience with Hokkaido elm, but my impression is that the growth pattern of the leaves on a branch is very symmetrical and the leaves are tiny. I bought an elm sold as Yatsabusa (small-leafed) almost 20 years ago, definitely not Hokkaido. I suppose it could be Seiju . . . actually the leaf size varies a little from branch to branch. It is now in a large nursery pot and almost six feet tall.

Yes! I have gotten confirmation from the Director if the Nationalk Aboretun in DC Dr. Richard Olsen that what you have is Ulmus POarvifolia Hokkaido "Seiju", They ar wonderful materials, just hard to wire without breaking the brittle branches,. I have one that is about 10' tall, close to being the tallest. Enjoy! Stay tuned...I will discuss more thoroughly on the net Q&A.

In future will you be selling your pots and clippers individually? I’d love to get a pair of your clippers and a pot. I don’t believe in buying bonsai trees id prefer to take the long road and make my own as I believe it will be a lot more rewarding and I also don’t feel like buying someone’s work and effort and calling it my own. It does not sit right in my head buying someone else’s hard work. Unless it was a gift or a request to carry on someone’s bonsai I simply cannot accept buying someone’s work,respectfully. Again thanks Dr. Milton Chang for sharing your knowledge and wisdom.
