Thanks to everyone for watching!!! I really appreciate you taking time out of your day to check out our deer camp. Let me know what you think of it. Have you ever seen anything like it? Do you belong to a deer camp? I'd love to know. I was told recently that the more likes a video has, the more KZbin promotes it, so if you're dropping in, hit the gray thumbs up to turn it blue! If you haven't seen any of my other videos, check them out and hit the red subscribe button - Turn that thing gray!!! Thanks again everyone - Dave

Playin' Hooky Sportfishing We have a similar deer camp near Goodman,wi. Our shack is put together like yours, but your hinged rafter system is something I would like to know more about. Have you thought about a small squirrel cage fan to move the heat lower toward the floor, that’s what we use to help keep the upper bunks cooler. Thanks for a great video.

My daughters in-laws are just north of fence on maple road. Thank you for the invite, I will take a ride over. Does your crew stay up during the week or just the weekend. 2019 was a very poor year for us, we had 11 in the crew and no one saw a deer at all. I did see two tracks but the wolves have moved into the area. Good luck this year!

Great video! Our deer camp is similar to what you have. We set up a portable shack like yours. My dad, two uncles and grandpa started hunting near Goodman,WI. Our shack is 14’x24’. My dad, uncles and grandpa started our camp in 1952 and now their children, nieces, nephews and grandchildren are now hunting at camp. 2020 will be the 68th year that the camp has been in operation and we are very proud of the fact that we have kept the camp alive all these years.

Awesome looking camp! My family has a yearly deer camp in northern Minnesota. We use Ice Castle fish houses as our bunk houses and a cook shack that my brother built, complete with a T.V and benches for cards, story tellin' and enjoying meals together. It's the perfect hangout spot to warm up and enjoy family time. I look forward to it every year. I look forward to sharing it with my own boys eventually when they are old enough to come along.

@@PlayinHookySportfishing as much as it hurts me to say the deer hunting up north isn't like it used to be, it isn't what it used to be! I remember as a kid most of my friends hunting up north and they'd see as many as 200 deer in a season! Now, the very few that still hunt way north are lucky to see one deer in an entire season! But still, that deer hunting camp tradition is what makes deer hunting fun!

I used to hunt out of a camp with ten guys but after I got out of the Army most guys went different ways. hunting by your self just isn't the same. Wolves obviously take some deer but the principle reason for lower numbers of deer where you (and I) hunt is forest maturation. That and over-browsing of wintering habitat in "deer yards" a bunch of years ago. It has not bounced back. When I first started hunting (1960's) in my home area which is a mix of farm land and deer, a deer sighting was rare but about an hour north (more in your hunting area) deer were plentiful. For several years I'd usually see about 20 deer PER DAY during the first two days of the season. Now, in that same more northerly habitat seeing a deer during the gun season is a rare thing. And the same thing applies to grouse. Some areas, along creeks for instance, still produce a few grouse but overall there far fewer than before. There is little "edge" and a lot of mature forest which holds and produces few deer or grouse. In short, fires passed through this part of the world and created excellent deer and grouse habit. Smokey Bear (damn that bear) came along, created a lot of anti-fire hype, there were no more fires, the forest matured and now there are very few deer and grouse which need young growth rather than mature forests. The same applies to the UP of Michigan. And now, with the high potential for CWD being transmitted because of extensive baiting and the a relatively large number of deer and elk farms the future of deer hunting in your and my part of the world does not look good.
@PlayinHookySportfishing
@PlayinHookySportfishing 4 жыл бұрын
I'd say a factor that plays as much a role as fewer fires is fewer logging operations. Tree-huggers pushed for legislation to make it nearly impossible to keep logging profitable. As far as CWD goes though, most of that is a farce. The DNR uses it as a scapegoat to keep deer populations low in more highly human populated areas (fewer insurance claims). It's impossible to eradicate herds of deer, so trying is pure insanity. CWD poses virtually no threat to our wild herds. Deer generally live quite long with CWD, even continuing to have fawns. So few deer have even been tested positive with CWD in Wisconsin, and the vast majority that have were deer that were killed by hunters, not that died of the disease. CWD hasn't even reached the wild herd of Northern Wisconsin, so to say that the Outlook of hunting in our area does not look good because of it would be falling prey to their propaganda.

Good harvest and video. I hunt all 9 nine days of the WI gun season every year in Taylor Co near Medford, WI. Our group ranges anywhere from 9-20 guys in our camp. The deer hunting has be horrible the past 8 yrs. We mostly only see wolf tracks in the National Forest that we have been hunting the past 40 yrs. Years ago our area use to be awesome deer hunting until the wolves moved in. I seen one doe all season just like the past 4 years. Our group only shot 1 deer again this season. Less and less hunters are hunting every year. Until they do something about the wolves the deer hunting tradition is fading fast. Very Sad!

Loved the whole camp tradition with Dad and his buddy's. Most have passed on now and hunting just isn't as much fun without them. I rifle hunt up there every other year now. Nice place to visit , and I love all the guys at the camp , but down here in warm NC we are used to seeing 30 to 50 deer a day , and I wish that we could somehow let y’all have a few in those big woods up north , it would be so much better if you just had some more deer. We only have deer to die by vehicle, and fawns get ate by coyotes but no frozen deer or wolves.

That's incredible, the amount of extensive setup for 2 days of hunting. It's so sad how awful the hunting has gotten in the northwoods of Wisconsin. The deer are already up against it in the northwoods, then you add the high amount of predation, it's really unreal. My father in law of 14 years, hasn't killed a deer in Florence Co. in 20 years. Yeah, there's definitely a disconnect between the DNR claims and what hunters are seeing afield. I truly think predators are the biggest reason we don't see deer like we used to. We never had real great nutrition in the past, and hunting pressure is WAAAAAAY down, so you'd think they should have rebounded to some degree, but they just haven't. Thanks for commenting, Jim!

Yeah, there are many factors in our area, as another commentor pointed out, but it can't be denied that Wolf predation plays a role. I've never seen a Wolf, but my girlfriend saw 4 last weekend. See tracks all the time, but they're crafty. They don't like being seen.

" was good " ? So , the question remains , why ? What's behind your diminishing hunting opportunities ? Wolves ?! If it's wolves , correct the situation ! Your state fish and wildlife , staffed with too many antis , is probably the problem . Save our hunting tradition by challenging the Antis ! Don't be passive sheep ! Take action !
