You and I are on the same page. My favorite hunting binoculars were a pair of Coleman 5 X 30s which were made by a binocular company for Coleman. I bought them many, many years ago for a hundred dollars, and sold a pair of Leupold 10 X 32s to purchase them. Low power helped gather light and I depended on them. My favorite ever. Bow hunters need low power small framed glass. I've encouraged several binocular companies to consider glass for bow hunters...maybe some day? Perhaps your work will help. Stay safe and shoot that longbow straight.

Well said. I have even looked into manufacturing my own 6x30 binos but according to statistics they never sell well as everyone wants high power. If they only knew the advantages of a 6x30 bino!!!!
@georgeburdine56606 жыл бұрын
Alright that's it, I'm sold. I'll get a pair next month. I feel the same way about them 8x and beyond, their just not me. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, and 7x50s were the norm. Excellent power for land and the ocean. I've had 8s and bigger. They usually just upset me. I seen these Mavens about a month ago, and crossed referenced them to KZbin,and,voila brought me to this video of someone that sounds knowledgeable. Thanks man. Because I was this close to purchasing a pair of kowa 6x30s but porro prismed.

@SamkoTradBow Жыл бұрын
I'm not a fan of anything over 8 power personally. 10 power requires me to set down my bow and use 2 hands to keep them from shaking so much. For huntingnin the woods I like a 7 or 8.
@patricj951 Жыл бұрын
7x means wider field of view, twice the brightness in low light condition and better depth of field(less need to refocus when you change distance). The 4mm exit pupil also makes it more comfortable than 2,8mm exit pupil of 10x model.

Jason, I wanted to see what your thoughts on the ultra light tree saddle setup, I know you love your LW assault 2 set up, but ever looked into the saddles? do you think there is a recurve limb clearance issues ?
@SamkoTradBow6 жыл бұрын
Saddles are great for people that like them. I personally dont care for them. But my buddy john has hunted out of a saddle for last 25 years. He even makes his own. I have a podcast coming out in 2 weeks with john all about saddle hunting. One thing for sure limb clearance is usually not a problem out of a saddle. Never heard of a trad guy saddle hunting complain about bow clearance. The way you shoot out of a saddle is different than a tree stand. Maybe one day this summer I will do a video with a saddle set up. But honestly I dont use one enough to be an expert on it.

@SamkoTradBow6 жыл бұрын
Tough call. Both are really nice. I thin the maven glass is better but I think the vortex is more durable stronger body design. Very tough call. Personally I'd probably go mavens because both are low priced and if I broke them I'd just buy another pair. So that would cancel out the slight difference in durability. I do like the eye cups on the vortex a little better though. 2 great binos at great prices and cant go wrong with either

I totally agree with you about Maven binoculars. I had the opportunity to use the B1 10x42 while out with a nature guide in the Grand Tetons/Yellowstone last year. I am no expert but to me they seems really nice. There is a big jump in price from the C series and B series. I watched your video on the Swarovski's and you had mentioned that the Vortex viper HD binoculars were really nice so my question to you is out of the Vortex vipers and the Maven c series which one would you choose? Are the Diamondbacks in line with the c series and vipers in line with the B series? Also, I am really struggling with choosing at size. Most everything available to me to try has been the 8x42 or 10x42. I don't hunt so I will mostly be using them for nature watching or spotting at the shooting range. I feel like my distance needed will be at out to 200 yards mostly. I would love to hear your feedback. Thanks.
@SamkoTradBow6 жыл бұрын
these are the only maven binos I have ever used so I dont have the option to compare the other versions to the vortex binos I have tried before. So i can not give a fair verdict on what I would like better. I can say I love all vortex binos especially for their prices. You get great build quality and durability and great glass for a affordable price. That is not very common these days. Since i have never had my hands on the higher priced mavens I cant say much about them. I personally would think a 10x42 would be better for you as a bird and nature watcher. But I dont do that so Im not the best to give advise on that. Heck you might be better off with a set of 15x50s and a monopod or carbonfiber tripod. To be sure you are getting the best answers I would ask this question on some of the birding forums or channels as they would kow whats better for exactly what you want to do. I would hate to steer you in the wrong direction or give advise that wastes money for ya.

Thank you for you advise. I am not in a hurry to make my decision. I am planning on going to the Great American Outdoor show in PA in a few weeks so hopefully there will be some binoculars there to try and experts to answer some questions.
