Just a note. The climbing rope he is using is static climbing rope. Actual rock climbing rope is dynamic which basically means it has some stretch to it. As a rock climber and deer hunter I would highly recommend this setup and the use of static line/rope. 11.0mm works great in the Wild Country Ropeman 1. Great video sir.

Thank you. Yep I use static for the lineman belt as I do not want any stretch. For my tether line I want dynamic for the shock absorbsion.

Great video on your safety ropes set up ...... I just bought a Novix Helo hunt ready system and I need to learn the best way to use this system . Your video tips are a great way to start this process . I'm 62 years old and have used climbers and lock ons for years, the thing I like about being mobile is of course the element of surprise , and using a lock on system allows me to be able to hunt just about any tree near the best deer sign , I'm looking forward to using some of your tips . take care and good hunting to you !

Been hanging stands for 35 years and this lineman belt design is safer and faster than any approach I have used before. It is faster than going with no climbing aid (which I did when I was bulletproof in my teens). Just a note, Ropeman did have a recall of some of their Ropeman1s. They contacted me and replaced it. As an engineer and someone that is always trying to improve things, I am a fan of this guy's approach.

I think that your videos I have seen are excellent, but I contest your views on a prusik... I don't know how you are tying them, but I have never had to use two hands to adjust a prusik, infact they are adjustable by using two fingers. Not saying the Ropeman is a bad option, but using a prusik for years as a hunter and a former arborist, I have never needed two hands to adjust. I am going to be building a new Linemans rope to lighten the weight load and I will be doing this, or atleast VERY similar! Great videos and well explained!! Thank you!
@SamkoTradBow
@SamkoTradBow 2 жыл бұрын
It's easy to extend the line on a prusik but pulling in tighter by grabbing the tag end and pulling doesn't work with a prusik unless it has a tender or something to hold the knot back. Atleast for me. The rope man is some, fast and easy to adjust line in or out. That makes me constantly make sure I have the right line length to keep me safe. Lots of good options out there. But for me the ropeman one is as simple, quick and functional as I could ever ask for.

Could you use the rope man one on your lifeline As well instead of the Prussic(sp) knot Ps thank you for this video. I’m 35 and have been hunting since I was 12 but this is my first year bow hunting//hunting in a tree. I’m terrified of heights and your videos on lineman’s belts and lifelines was a game changer. I feel like I’m not gonna die in the damn tree now. Thank you.
@SamkoTradBow
@SamkoTradBow 3 жыл бұрын
I would not use a ropeman as a lifeline connection. That line could end up having a lot of slack in it depending on you sitting or standing etc. I would not want to put a full drop with a couple feet of slack on a ropeman. Not that I think it would hurt it. I just think a solid rope in that situation would be better. Now for a lineman belt the ropeman is perfect.

How it "splits" is called a "sheave" this is absolutely a good ascender. First series is easier on your line & creates less freying due to the LESS aggressive teeth on the cam than the second series. But the Ropeman 2 has a stainless steel cam & is rated for much more weight. I climb trees professionally & it's a solid system. I would suggest 2 buckstraps or what this guy calls lineman belt or whatever for transitioning around limbs. Spend the few extra bucks & get a few locking carabiners. It's worth staying alive.
@SamkoTradBow
@SamkoTradBow 4 жыл бұрын
We have the safety line that is connected to our shoulders to use as a safe line when we have to disconnect the lineman belt to get around limbs. But its defineltly not as fast as 2 lineman belts, but is quieter as we don't have carabiners clanking together. Thanks for the detailed info!

On the non ascender side I just use an over hand knot and then lash the tail to the mainline so it can not come undone and is snag free. To lash the end I just used bowstring serving and wrapped it tight free hand. But any good climbing knot will work great.

Good video. I see one of the link's you posted in this video about the 11mm rope. When I watched some of your other videos, you said these linesman ropes you have are PMI rope which is the stiffer rope. In this link in this video, this rope is DoMyFit 11mm rope from Amazon not PMI. Different brand. Is this type of rope in this link just as stiff as the PMI?
@SamkoTradBow
@SamkoTradBow 2 жыл бұрын
Most people won't spend the money for pmi ez bend as it doesn't sell buy the foot and is expensive. So the link is to a different less stiff but still good 11mm rope. I do buy and use the pmi and love it. But many people won't spend 150 bucks for 100 feet of it just to use 10 feet.

@@SamkoTradBow thanks. Yeah that's all I want. 10 ft worth. I do like that PMI rope that is stiffer than the other one that you said is less stiff. I guess it is what it is and I just gotta pay for it if I want the stiff rope. I didn't want to order the other type of rope and once I get it I see it's too flexible and I gotta return it back. Some places won't let you return rope back if it's sold by the foot. But I'm glad you told me this other rope in this link in this video isn't as stiff so I won't get that. I'll trust your judgment and get PMI.

I also like the auto locking carabiners, but have found that when they freeze they are tricky. nice thing about the twist locks are in the winter storms or freezing rain I dont have to use the lock and can just leave it unlocked and used as a standard carabiner. But if you dont hunt in the freezing cold storms much the auto lockers are nice. I appreciate you mentioning the auto locks. gives people more options! Thanks for the comment!

On the hunter safety lifeline, will that rope work for a belt setup like yours? I would also like to make a tether from a lifeline I never put up. I am fixing to order a new saddle. If I can use the lifeline rope I already have, it would just be that much cheaper to build the ultimate setup
@SamkoTradBow
@SamkoTradBow 3 жыл бұрын
The rope man 1 is designed for 10-13mm rope so if your tether is in that range you are good to go. If ots smaller than 10 you will need a ropwman 2 or kong unit to make that rope work.

The Ropeman 2 is actually the better ascender. All high end ascenders use the teeth approach. Ascenders that cost 100-200 each all use it. I bought my first ascenders, Jumars, in 1972, and last year bought some replacements, they all use pointy teeth. The only reason the Ropeman 1 does not is because the cam is Aluminum saving a fraction of an ounce in weight. Aluminum is too soft to carry the detail in the point cam surfaces, which are made in steel. I am not climbing Everest without oxygen, so that tiny increment of weight would not influence me, but then today when I tried to buy an R2 , they didn't have one, so I bought the R1. It isn't a big deal. SO LONG AS, one is using real climbing rope in the correct size. There are products that look like climbing rope (or similar grade products such as those used for fast ropping and rescue) where the only load bearing part of the rope is the mantel. Some ropes even have material that looks like plastic bags in the core. In fact with climbing rope, the load bearing part is the core, the mantel is all about handling, durability, etc... But use a ropeman on real rope, and either one will work in our situation. Fraying in the mantel fo a climbing rope does not affect the performance, and improves handling. It gets a nice fuzz to it and that is as far as it goes.
@SamkoTradBow
@SamkoTradBow Жыл бұрын
I did not like the ropeman 2. It was too hard on the rope. The ropeman 1 has served me well for 25 years. But I for sure appreciate all the detail and info in this comment, especially about the ropes. Thanks.
