This was my discovery... Religion brought me to a certain point, of which i could not escape, until i realized my true self as spirit, and reversed my view from person first spirit second, to spirit first having a Human experience, everything changed at that point, it was a revelation about myself that required no religion or tradition to maintain. Religion can be a starting point for many, but too much of it becomes irony, and a weight too great to manage.

some would call me antisocial because I don't participate in rituals like Xmas or any of them, I don't give or receive cards or gifts, I don't like the whole idea of gift giving, I prefer to give gifts because I want to any time of the year. It's the big companies that turn me off the most, it makes me feel pressured into something VERY wrong. I don't even like licences to marry, fish or to have a dog as it's a secret tax when we pay enough illegal tax.

JoJoZep ofthejungle I would call you off-beat and unfriendly. Sure, I have my traditions. There's nothing wrong with them, and they plump up life and make it more fun. An example would be Halloween. I love Halloween! As a child, in those days we left our house to go trick-or-treating as soon as it was nighttime. My mother had created a little blue felt skirt and she had sewn little pumpkins, black cats, a witch riding a broom across the moon, a spitting, angry black cat with his back arched up high etc. All the way around the hem of my skirt. I wore it for several Halloweens! Then my aunt, year after year, and i would set out for some trick-or-treating. I remember every year as we walked home with our bounty that she would look up at the harvest moon and tell me she thought she had seen a witch zooming across it - on a broom, and with that snarling, angry black cat arching its back and riding on the back of that broom. And I would look up and yes! I felt a thrill go through me as I saw this wonderful phenomenon! Another old wives tale popular back then was that kids should Never, Ever wear a skeleton costume because the "older" boys in the neighborhood (the ten, eleven and twelve-year-olds) would throw rocks at you! And if a little kid stayed past 8 I'm clock, they might see really big boys making the rounds, and THEY were truly up to no good. Just what that meant was never really explained, but it set up a delicious foreboding. These boys were anywhere between twelve and about fifteen at the oldest, but they were menacing and if you saw one of them then you needed to hide or go inside! It was so much fun! Full of mystery. What kind of mischief would the biggest boys.get into? Maybe throw rocks at someone's house, or kick over garbage cans, try to scare the youngest trick-or-treating! And after all these thrills, you emptied out all your candy as you say on the floor and watched TV! The only holiday better than that was Christmas. I remember I was so excited one Halloween that I went outside after supper and watched the sun go down. It seemed to take forever! We knew that after the twilight faded into dark, the fun would begin. Years later, I bought costumes for my kids and I took them trick-or-treating. They came to love Halloween. Holidays that are celebrated year after year ... Rituals and traditions! What's not to like? I usually get a lot out of this guy's videos but I am dismayed by this one. Traditions, especially, are gifts that keep on giving year after year. They strengthen the bonds in families as it's members celebrate together - and as an adult you remember how much fun they were and you want to cue your own kids in! It's a great way to enjoy life. Not only as a child, but later as an adult (whether you have kids or not.) Tell me what's so bad! Am I missing something? It might be you that's missing something. Look, everyday life is okay, but rituals and traditions create excitement and joy as well as a sense of continuity as the years pass. There is nothing wrong with that. Sit in your house or whatever you do. Me, I'll be dying eggs for Easter baskets, hanging Christmas stockings, and taking my little girl to piano practice - just like my mother used to do these things for me! Hopefully, she will continue our traditions with her own children.

dolce vita, Yes but you have a need to slam judgement and send out an order. Even though many of us are in the narrow, there are some who are still higher and care about others. I for one would love to understand all these 'humans' who can exercise mind control and manipulate events. This having been said does not always make for a healthy world or environment.

as someone who was raised in an environment in which being accepted or part of the group was basically for everyone else, but not for me, the sort of outcast, I've always searched for belonging, mainly through traditions or rituals, etc, the very things spoken of in this video. It has become a virtual endless search (60 years) and I've never found belonging. This talk explains why, we are not defined on our traditions or belonging in this world. The realization that we belong to a much larger "group", the original group so to speak, and that we are not only accepted, but wanted and are considered an essential portion of it, makes that search invvallid, unnecessary! What a comfort. What relief, to not feel the need to constantly be searching for something you will never find! A person can relax in the knowing, in the acceptance!

The idea of honoring your parents by being a kind, compassionatr spiritual person makes so much sense!! It's all they wanted for themselves, after all. All these concepts are exactly what Buddha taught 2500 years ago, that we are all here to escape the cycle of birth and death. Unfortunately, Christianity has categorised Buddhism as superstitions when it tells the truth about reincarnation, karma and freedom. There is nothing new here that Buddha didn't teach. Buddha said follow his teachings and precepts (of not killing including animals, not stealing, not hurting others etc) but not to worship him. Exactly what this video is teaching.
@OrthodoxDAO
@OrthodoxDAO 6 жыл бұрын
Don't bastardize truth with this nonsense, please. "Buddhism" is mainly a whole lot traditions and rituals worshiping Buddha, so actually go against Buddha and each and everyone should categorize it as superstition. Plus, Buddha was much more nuanced on "escaping" any cycle, Hindus around him were escaping cycles, Buddha was about escaping suffering, check your facts! Jesus was asked if he can summarize his teaching and said the rather famous "Love God, love your fellow humans", so any "Christianity" that puts divisions above love has nothing to do with Jesus, actually.
@rpcrazy
@rpcrazy 6 жыл бұрын
I noticed the argumentative tone. Just some input, Buddha espoused escaping the cycle of birth & death (aka: freedom) because the suffering of the entire sansaric timescale(consciousness streams from existence to existence) is tremendously greater than the pleasures gained in the various existences as a fact. Also the stages of Nibbana are 4 stages so there are humans among Human, devas among Deva, Brahmas among Brahma who are on their way to complete freedom from suffering while others aren't. So Warcy's original statement is true, just simplified for expression.

Wow very interesting, thanks for sharing Hans. In my experience my partner and his family follow a strict set of rules made by the religion he follows. In our home we are not allowed to cut nails in the evening, not allowed to wash hair or clothes on Tuesdays Thursdays or Saturdays. Not allowed to own a cat. There are more but I can't remember at the moment. Anyway my take on it is that it's a form of control on people. He and his family believe if you do not follow these rules there will be negativity in your life. He says the ancestors made it for us to follow. I know he is doing it with good intentions but I feel as though it's outdated.

Thank you Hans for your wonderful insight. I've just recently delved into your video archive and I must say it's been one of the best decisions I've made! This video in particular sticks out to me because I've always been wary of traditions. Universities, churches, and society make us think tradition brings us all together. Although that may be true in the physical sense, it is false in the spiritual sense, as you've explained here. You continue to open my eyes and my mind with each video. Your work is greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for your video!! In the Netherlands we are all in a struggle with a tradition called "zwarte piet", black painted humans who are giving candy and present to children with an old white man on a white horse wearing an egyptian/pope like hat and carrying a gold staff... Which is now a fight between black people, white people and the government, the children all at once seem to be of less importance in the discussions.... I needed this video....

Edgar Cayce was asked about the best religion to follow and he responded by saying the one you actually practice. All religions have their rituals, spiritual practice and philosophies. We choose what we want to focus on. I find the practice of meditation, the dharma philosophies of the Buddha which are largely reflective of the course in miracles and Christian philosophies helps me stay disciplined and focused. Meditation could be considered a ritual but it doesn’t bind one to the past. On the contrary, it supports our freedom and so does the dharma.

Dear Mr. Wilhelm, this video rose a lot of questions. For example: If traditions are binding, how can we escape them? Should we take the best of all teachings and connect the dots? How can we find out which of the teachings are a part of an old perception? And in general: We are letting go of our past, but our antsestors lived in pease and harmony, respected each other and we don,t. Without culture, how can we remember the beauty of our past? By letting go, aren't we giving path to the parasitic perceptions that are ruling our planet now, instead of embrasing the love and respect we had to each other? Sadly those who controle the past, are controling the future, and the history of human kind is being falsified. I would love to see another video on the same topic.

Nature is extremly ritualistic. It is the rythm om life, every day of day and night, the seasons of the year, the motions of the stars and planets, the cycle of birth, youth, old age and death etc. etc. Our day is filled with ritual, brushing our teeth, meals, going to work, time for activity, relaxation etc. Freedom has nothing to do with letting go of these outer forms, freedom is to be unaffected and accepting of all experience. Many rituals are dysfunctional, dogmatic and binds people to dogmas. That is true. But the problem is not the rituals, but the beliefs and underlying rigid and dogmatic faith which often is blind, stagnant and making people stupid out of security. Rituals like birth of children, marriage, death and celebrations are as old as humanity it self. Although good videos this one is a miss, because rituals are essensial to spiritual growth. To meditate every day, to pray, to have a regular and ordered life in harmony with nature are all positive rituals and does not stand in the way of freedom.

Christian Paaske -I SO agree with your comment! I love doing my ritual/ meditations because it connects me to Spirit in a heightened way and it connects me to the wisdom of my ancestors. Thank you for making this comment!

My common sense tells me Hans was not referring to nature and rituals of daily hygiene... 🙄

MsBizzyGurl Yes I agree..every time I encounter medical people trying to tell me to ritualize my life I actually want to vomit. It is a trap that robs you of life and turns it into an existence of fake meaning. Done because people generally are not in touch with themselvesIt and have no idea what to do with their lives, precisely due to the construct and dogma of society and religion causing confusion and making us lose sight of who we are. Ritual are nonsense and far from helping you, keep you trapped in a wasted life. People should be free to choose what they want. If they find ritual helps them so be it. If they find it repulsive as do I hopefully they will look for themselves and find why they are here out of curiosity and find excitement in that and have a fulfilled life instead of hanging on to the ropes in hope it will keep you safe. Those ropes of ritual are a false safety net. Some may be beneficial as stepping stones just as when we learn to crawl and walk but should not be used as a permanent safety mechanism. That prevents growth.

It would be interesting to see your view about Sikhi which roots from Guru Nanak. I am in no way a learned Sikh, but your message seems to resonate with SatNam (the True Nature). Just your life explained alone has helped me tremendously in my personal growth and continues too. Respect and love
