Nice job. I wonder what made the owners of the house suddenly decide to have the windows cleaned after all that time. I'm sure there would be a market for an applicator/mop/scrubber in the form of a glove for the small size panes.

trad man, we have had our disagreements in the past with regards to WFP. I have to say anyone that can trad them high windows with an SLX 30 and 6" squeegee must be a master. I am competent in both methods, but would have baulked at trading that job, much respect. The one thing you never mentioned that for me is the most important aspect of the job is safety, I have 2 children and the day I took the ladder off the van was a great day for me. My personal way of thinking is this, I would rather do a 90% job with 100% safety on 5% or less of my work than a 100% job with 50% safety. I earn a very good wage and uphold an excellent reputation without ever putting myself/my family at risk, my results may not always match yours but I will always come home in one piece. I put safety above all else, even if that means quality may suffer occasionally, and I stress only occasionally. You're a highly skilled individual, but if one of them slates you stood upon wasn't properly installed...??? I tip my hat to you, sir, take care.

Hey buddy! Yeah I still do first cleans traditionally. To ensure I get everything off the glass like paint, silicone etc. So nothings changed really, just if I was to do that job again now I would do the highest windows with the wfp because trying to trad tiny windows 30ft up with a six inch squeegee is flipn difficult haha! If the job is really dirty sometimes I'll wfp it first to get the worst off then trad it after to get anything off the glass that wouldn't come off with wfp 😁👍🏻

Trad - Man yea I get ya. You gotta use what you have confidence in or the customer won’t have confidence in you. If you gave me a choice of a liquidator or a water fed pole and said get this window perfect I would choose the pole any day as I have confidence that I have learnt enough water fed tricks to get that perfect but I get streaks and marks with the liquidator every time. (Eg. Suds on the glass from going from trad to waterfed almost always cause spotting (even with the liquidator) so you have to blast all the suds away) Mind you in the summer waterfed is dry by the end of the job. (Or am I an ignorant southerner) Definitely harder to use the liquidator on a pole that a water-fed so credit to you! All the best!

@@TradMan that makes sense, take your time with it and with anything it takes time. It's going great this year! This winter has been really nice, allot more work than expected. I actually landed my 1st monthly residential customer, thats extremely rare out here in the states. I might actually invest in a WFP for these types of jobs. Generally I prefer residential but I like the constancy of commercial work. Yeah I'm getting used to wearing the kilt, you see it's only worn here for special events, not many wear it for day to day use. So people in the street normally look twice when I'm working, they like it though and it helps the charity so defo worth it. In what way is your excel mod'd? My favourite tool would have to be the new excelerator. I am fortunate enough to be part of the team that helped create it. It's got minus angles as well as the previous positive ones. Also the channel is much easier to release with a new lever. And the close outs are miles better with a better made swivel head. You'll really like it I'm sure. So that's my favourite :) nothing it can't do

@TradMan

Hey bud! Good question, I actually for larger jobs charge by the hour, so I'll give them a rough ball park price, then give them the actual final bill at the end. So that way i don't mess up the quotation. It's like when you go to a mechanic they tell you they charge X per hour plus parts. So i do similar with window cleaning, i charge per hour and any special chemicals i need that gets put in the price :) Hope that helps! What do you find works for you?
@timinator83
@timinator83 5 жыл бұрын
Trad - Man thats a good idea, i need to start doing that on my jobs, the only problem is the potential custie prob wants correct price before u start so they can say if they def want u or not - but i think thats a good way to do it for first cleans cos they can sometimes be a nightmare to quote - ive been caught out loadsa times. I just walk around see how bad they look and guess how long it takes, so if i think its takes 30 min ill charge £30 - i try count in the start up and tidying away too 😁

I wish you lived near me. I live on a busy main rd. poor guy who washed our windows with water fed got two tickets in 15 mins for parking van outside our house. It was the patrol wardens with camera on top of motor. They got him once then again on way back. Poor man. And we get a window cleaner trad style only comes once then don’t see him again keeps happening. So I bought unger squeegee and mop do it myself I can do it self taught or shud I say KZbin taught 😀. I’m now investing in moerman kit fed up with detailing. Anyway changed my caretaking job to window cleaning on our local council using waterfed but I kept telling them that do not use hot water it was streaking bad and getting too many complaints from tennents. They don’t listen cos they started before me I’m a amateur don’t knw what I’m talking about. When schools closed for six week Hollidays I done the windows inside trad style whilst cleaning them they are doing same windows but outside using waterfed. Well the state of outside windows was terrible after they finished you could see the steam from hot water they were using and it was summer as well so they were drying almost instantly. And when then we’re cleaning over 30ft it got worse cos brush was only tickling the windows couldn’t put any effort on glass. Anyway I left and went back to my caretaking job. I now have a unger squeegee and mop to cleaning windows in council flats windows open inwards as well so can clean both side of glass. I’m will watch how you cut down to a six inch as door panels on entry doors are cleaned with glass cleaner and cloths but it takes longer and still get smears. Go through so many cloths using spray. Ps. Tennents love how I squeegee windows they say it makes it look so cleaner. Great vid by the way and been learning from you.

Can the wfp remove paint spots? This is something we offer to customers. This job had not been cleaned in many years and had ingrained dirt that needed bronze wool and a razor. You didn't get to see every window done as it would be too long a video. Yes you would be finished before me but you would of only cleaned the normal dirt off and not ingrained stuff which was hard enough to get off when nose to glass. We offer window detailing and window cleaning. This job was a full window detailing job so all cement, silicone and paint removed from the glass. A wfp would not do that only remove the normal light dirt. Its not all about speed, its about qualitly. The other thing you've not considered is we charge by the hour so not an issue how long it takes. We stay until the job is 100%, not a quick flick over. Thanks

I’m assuming the wfp vs trad war is still an ongoing process? I’m learning now that opinion vs opinion and team A vs team B is a trend right now. 😂

I don't bash people for using wfp, I used it myself for 6 years and it has good positives about it. I personally enjoy traditional more and the instant results from it. Also handy being a trad guy or gal as you would have the tools to remove paint, cement and hard water stains

That's really cool!!! We are all learning everyday. I don't know everything, but the info I have learned from either working for a large window cleaning company and being self employed, I like to pass on that knowledge to those that need it or just fancy trying something a different way. Is there any videos you would like to see?

Great skills mate. I too have a wrap system, but I use it very sparingly as grad does get on average a much better result. Where I think you could improve your work system is to get your trad liq/fliqs hooked up to a pump sprayer so you can deliver the water onto the glass and never have to bring your squeegee down from a fully extended pole to re-wet. I use this method for all my high grad poling and you will find you get fantastic results. I made some basic vids on how to rig it up, and after window cleaning 25 years I’ve not found a better method for high pole work.

Hi Pete. Would you possibly entertain the idea of using a stand off with the ladder that way you would still need to use a pole but wouldn’t of needed to extend it. Maybe only the actual length of the standard pole?

Trad - Man no worries. I also use ladders by myself. I used to be a builder. Used the same method. Get a rubble bag fill with 30kg of sand. Put few more thick rubble bags around to keep dry. Drop it onto floor covering bottom of ladders. It won’t budge. Feels a lot safer

Hi trad great skills as always your on another level but how can you get a streaks from water fed pole since its something that's happens with a squeegee when a fan shape of solutions dries on the glass. Your making it sound like it's a problem with water fed pole not a trad problem which might not be clear to new window cleaners watching this. I never had or see a steak from water fed pole. I agree spotting is a problem and does happen with water fed pole since its drips of dirty water bleeding out of seals which you have stated. This can be reduced by doing your frist clean method of washing everything 1st then going back over it all glass only. Amazing vid as always and sorry to be a pain in the neck I just don't feel some of your comments where not clear enough. Like polz said if water fed pole users could do it inside they would I be one of those gentlemen. How ever if you can provide vid proof of water fed pole steaking and how do prevent it I take back my comments however vs the trad vids on how to stop streaking o think it be very clear it's mainly a trad problem.

Hey bud thanks for your thoughts there really appreciate it. Yeah totally get you, I have found that with wfp (used to work for a very large wfp company and I used to repair systems and poles) we did have call backs now and then dispite being very thorough and doing exactly as you correctly stated, doing frames then glass after. Don't get me wrong it doesn't always happen that's not what i meant and i apologise if that's how it came across. My point I was attempting to make was I like the peace of mind of trad that the glass is dry straight away after using the squeegee and you can check your work immediately before proceeding on to your next window and then next job. Problem is even if a wfp customer don't complain directly to the wfp provider (very brutish thing not to complain) they will find a way to cancel and say something like my other half is gonna do the windows now. It's unfortunate as i do believe the wfp is a great tool! But it's being relied upon to much. I can honestly say i pick up work all the time from wfp users in my area and I've not picked up much work from trad guys. I also found when i get there it's the usual thing of a run mark or some spots, when i ask these potential custys if they spoke to there previous cleaner to get them to fix it, the custy usually says no, as they don't want to complain, it's easier for them to just wait for another window cleaner and then provide a silly excuse to there previous cleaner as to why they are cancelling. I know the wfp is defo capable of doing a good job, but there is always that gamble aspect of will it potentially leave a run mark or spots and sometimes due to no fault of the user or equipment.

Trad - Man raises some decent points, although ive actually picked up a fair number of ex-trad custies over the years cleaning wfp - ive got the impression from a couple that that last trad guys didnt look professional and didnt like them using rags on their windies. Most my work is monthly and theyre always clean n fly through my work, almost only needs splashing. But i will say, a few new custies ive had over past year have not turned out well for their first clean and ive just made excuse that give it til nect clean and theyll come up proper! I would say if youve priced it well and ur wfp, pre clean the job with wfp cos its good with frames then finish the job tradding it, tradding always looks better with end result, i clean my own windows and always look nicer when i trad them, sometimes i wonder how im still in the job when im 99.9% wfp. The only thing that is stoppin me going back to 100% trad is (even with perfecting moerman gear for 0 detailing and trad pole) it does take longer, and i like flying through my work, and 1/3 of my round is leaded light windies. If i was to go 100% trad it would need to pay me what i earn now (£1 per min on average) u just cant earn that tradding residential stuff.
@TradMan
@TradMan 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah totally get what you mean, i was fortunate i priced my work well and i charge more than wfp users in my area as i charge for the time it takes, so i do less jobs per day but i actually earn more than most window cleaners in my area and don't have to do massive amounts of houses per day. I think the only downside to trad is as you said the dreaded leaded windows! I stay clear of them haha! Good points you made there buddy thank you. What is your current wfp system? Do you like it?

@@TradMan Great work to begin with. I am an avid WFP user, but I agree runs can be a big pain from time to time. What I usually do is hang on to a green indoor mop head and spray with pure water and quickly go over the upper windows on completion. I usually explain that water can often run from the top sill. This is usually on a separate extended pole. if the condition of the glass is really quite bad, I will use a quadruple zero white pad and lather the windows up first. All works in the end. Never called back now adays and rarely lose customers unless they are looking for the cheapest deal. Cheers Ian ;o)
