Thank you for clearing this up!!! I always was slightly bothered by when people call things microtonal when it is not.

yeah, basically detuning is just pitch shifting. microtonality exists between the movement of notes. shifting pitch just drags the piece as a whole, if i understand this correctly. cool vid!

hyah, I would like to point out the term "macrotonal" to describe step sizes larger then 12tet, although it is somewhat ignored for the umbrella term microtonal. this at least infers that microtonal is step sizes that are not of 12. though, this statement is still up to debate whether detuning is microtonal, only really "xenharmonic" is agreed upon as harmony with step sizes that are not of 12 tone, basically saying something is xenharmonic is a more grounded term to say something is tuned in a way other then 12- to completely distinguish something that isnt just a detuning

i actually did consider mentioning macrotonal as a term but wasn't sure if it would make things confusing. i assume those curious enough would learn about the term via the links i provided

personally I vibe more to the nanotonal music of 12.001 TET (also, nice video)

But what if you use 24 tet and only use quarter flats. Checkmate.

did you mean 48tet or half flats

Your video is good, i enjoyed it, but you basically put the important sentence on the far end and also mumbled it, so i almost missed it. If you want to be more informative consider emphasising lore on the point, that its about the intervalls betweene the notes instead of whqt pitch the scale is tuned to. Still Great video though, left a like! :)

i appreciate the feedback! reason i formatted this was tho was because i wanted to be sure the viewer has a basic understanding of the tuning that most music heard is using before tackling the main topic. since i dont normally script videos the execution cpuld be improved. i also do lack a bit of vocal confidence so thats something else to work on (this is part of why i included subtitles)

Would you say that pitch bending is microtonal?
@TRAELMYX6 ай бұрын
i would not. microtonality involves the relationships between individual notes being smaller than whats present in the 12tet system due to extra divisions being added to the octave. a single note sliding across the frequency spectrum does not achieve that effect as your mind does not process that as multiple notes, but just one note with an expressive effect
