Trafalgar Street is Nelson City’s main street, and the upper Trafalgar dining precinct and pedestrian zone oozes a whole lot of character.
With delicious alfresco dining options, hammocks, colourful planter boxes, lush green lawn and occasional live performances, it’s no wonder that families, couples and friends flock to the precinct for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The top of Trafalgar is also where you’ll find the historic church steps, the Christ Church cathedral and its gorgeous garden surrounds. Standing proudly atop Pikimai Hill, the church overlooks the bustling city centre, and a stroll to the top to admire the fascinating architecture of this historic building is definitely recommended.
A number of events and performances are held in 1903 square, a quirky little corner to the left of the precinct backdropped with one of the regions’ largest wall murals. Depending on the time of year, you might catch buskers, musicians or dancers performing to a crowd on the 1903 stage.
