What is the function of the "Fire Buff Support" unit. I understand what fire buffs are. They're civilians with an interest in the fire service and their operations and show up at scenes to photograph or capture video of the various scenes. But, that uni; is it a FD operated vehicle or civilian? And what is their duties.

There's a non-profit group called the Seattle Fire Buff Society; they're civilians who help with rehab/canteen services at large incidents. seattlefirebuffsociety.org/

quick question, does Seattle PD have anything in the way of a Volunteer Program, meaning in a case like this, the volunteers would be assigned traffic control so that the regular officers wouldnt have to worry about blocking traffic like this, my dept has them, and they do stuff like handicap parking checks making sure that nobody is parking in a handicap spot when they are not supposed to, house checks for when residents are maybe on a vacation or whatever, and other things within the dept......

SPD does have a police explorers program, but it looks like they only work/volunteer at community events. It's probably too much liability for them to conduct traffic at actual incidents, and there's a designated parking department within SPD that handles enforcement. www.seattle.gov/police/community-policing/police-explorers

Explorers is open to young men and women ages 14-21. They used to meet at West Precinct. SPD has traffic parking enforcement officers who handle traffic control. There is also the Traffic officers who do dui patrol and have the motorcycles. Both could take over blocking the street for a patrol officer but they would take a while to arrive.

@Andrew Silva In Denver 3 years ago, "Civilian Crash Investigators" were added to the payroll. Different than volunteer traffic controllers that you described, but one way the PD now uses to free up their officers for more pressing issues. These crash investigators only respond to minor accidents and that don't involve a DUI... but that's quite a lot.

what is air 260? never heard of a truck designated as air before
@SeattleTrafficCams3 жыл бұрын
Seattle fire has two different kind of air trucks. Air 10 and Air 26 are built on pickup truck bodies, and carry spare air tanks. flic.kr/p/2iTfjQz Air 240 and 260 are larger trucks, and carry portable air compressors in addition to the extra tanks, so they can refill the air bottles on scene: flic.kr/p/2jCuGG8
