What is an NPU? Sounds like a fad

Neural processing unit, it enhances various algorithmic actions or AI processing. For example, a non-generative use of an NPU is when your Pixel phone lets you remove objects in Google Photos or faster H264 decoding on an Apple Silicon Macbook. Time has yet to tell how valuable they will be (given the AI craze is just a bubble waiting to burst), they aren't new, but AMD and Intel have been slow to add them or were forced to by Microsoft.
