Ron, we live in the greatest country in the world, and our freedoms are because of our brave military men, and woman. We owe them so much! We have veterans living on our streets, which breaks my heart! I believe that our military veterans are owed free homes, free medical, free automobiles, free food...basically everything free! We owe them everything, and I mean everything! We owe so much to our Lord, but our land's freedom we owe to our military! Why does our government not ever bring this up? God bless our military! God bless you Ron for bringing light to our soldiers!

Know* As a wife and mother to veterans OF THE SAME WAR, please join the military so that you can see how our federal government can screw everything up that it touches. The VA is the largest, socialized healthcare provider in America. Our vets die waiting to be seen for proper medical attention and some people want civilians to have the same crappy healthcare. It's as if Americans aren't taught what it means to be an American anymore. Shameful. @@BUSY323

Enjoyed hearing the military stories. Odd that Foy Jr. died in 1995 & there is no gravestone in the cemetery for him. Also odd is that Find A Grave shows him, his dad, his mom & his sister but no spouse or children. There is a Steve Carter shown as a sponsor but tell nothing about him. Thank You Ron for showing your respect for our military men.

Thank you so much for this interesting documentary, Ron. I am in the middle of reading lots of books about the allies in the Second World War. My late father was a veteran. He was parachuted behind enemy lines and he worked undercover in occupied German territories where he risked his life to free allied airmen who were in safe houses and bring them back to Great Britain. I still have his parachute and army jacket too. God Bless all our veterans and RIP all those that bravely gave their lives and fell in battle. Stay safe and keep well. Zora in Australia.

War is so full of bad breaks, lucky moments and surreal events. One of my lieutenants was a US paratrooper in the Pacific Theater. He was scheduled for a practice/maintenance jump one day. But another paratrooper was short on jumps, so that guy asked if he could take the jump spot. So M.S. said OK. The guy took his parachute and got airborne and jumped.....but the chute failed to open. He died on impact. M.S. never forgot that guy, nor did he ever stop thinking "That should've been me";

But the narrator has a good voice and is doing a good job. You're going to laugh, but I go to sleep each night with one of your KZbin videos playing because your voice is so lulling. I also read a book about a pilot on a bomber. The stories he told were horrifying. But like the Lucky Penny crewmember who left a bit of a bad taste in your mouth, this fellow also did with me. Before he went overseas. He met a girl and she wrote to him all the time he was overseas. His feelings for her changed, but he didn't tell her and when he returned, he didn't even let her know he was back. When she found out, she took a train to go see him. He promptly took her back to the train and sent her home, which I think was terribly cruel. He eventually married a rich woman. Just a reminder that although these men were truly heroes, they still had their faults, like all men.

Carter's story has a bunch of connections to my father-in-law's Pacific tour. Both were in the Philippines during the Leyte Gulf battle, except my FIL didn't know of the battle until 1983 when he read about it in a VFW or Am.Legion magazine article. He was on the smallest Navy ship, a Yard Minesweeper (YMS-197). Between beach invasions they didn't have much to do, but in the Philippines there's thousands of islands and a humongus region, so small ships like YMS would patrol with the PT boats hoping to draw machinegun fire from Japanese on shore. They also were trying to stop Japanese subs from supplying their troops on various islands. My FIL and his ship stayed in the Philippines until it was time to sweep Okinawa for the upcoming invasion. Carter was fortunate to survive the nasty typhoon that hit the fleet. Destroy sized ships took a terrible beating. My FIL saw many of them roll so far the funnels touched the water, then recover and roll the other way until the funnels touched the water and repeat. After some time a number of those ships rolled upside down and disappeared. The waves were so big the YMS would be in a trough unable to see anything but water, then suddenly a heavy cruiser would be above them on top of a wave. For those who survived the typhoon, then the kamikazes started and things got wild. Flak and bullets would fired in the millions on a busy day. Even the water was not safe from sailors terrible marksmanship. When they weren't picking up pilots or sailors from the water, they patrolled the west coast of Okinawa and discovered a bunch of Japanese suicide boats ready to go except for the explosives. My FIL helped inspect them and they all had Buick engines. When the big ship fleet went to Tokyo Bay for the surrender, my FIL ship was part of a task force sent to Shanghai China. There were sizable forces of Japanese Army and Navy AND ..... here's something you never see in a history book or video documentary ---> those Jap land and sea forces were threatening to NOT surrender. That threat was taken very serious by the US Navy.As they neared Shanghai at least one IJN destroyer was up to full steam coming out to them. But a few big shells from a cruiser made them stop and surrender. You never know who you'll meet and when you'll see them again. Case in point...my FIL had some "contact" with Richard M. Nixon on the Green Islands. Now you can't make up a story like that as first of all...who's ever heard of the Green Islands? Who can find them on a map? Nobody as most printed maps don't record them and nothing happened on them except for distributing supplies. Richard Nixon was an officer of supplies. Out of thousands of Navy officers why did he remember Nixon?? He said Nixon was such a jerk, think of that officer in Band of Brothers and that's the jerk level. So FIL and his crew had to break coral with sledgehammers to make sidewalks so the officers didn't get their shoes dirty. But the crew got their revenge by stealing most of the officer's cold beer from a not so secure tent. Then they left. LOL
