I would like to see him receive some kind of formal recognition for his work, perhaps in the form of a knighthood before he dies. And given his already rapidly deteriorating health that should probably be sooner rather than later.

I've seen Phil 4 times, all after his retirement. He's my favorite musician of all time and even from a chair he puts on a hell of a show. His showmanship wasn't in kick flips or running around, it was his charming personality and that's still there. I see a lot of people sad for Phil. I say don't be. He got to be on stage with his son and he seems happy.

Great video. I've always liked Phil Collins. I remember a time sitting on a bench eating a sandwich on the promenade at Bognor Regis, UK in the 80's and Phil, wearing his flat cap and being accompanied by a blonde woman, walked past me. I looked at him thinking, 'No surely that's not Phil Collins is it' and he looked at me and gave me a slight grin (smile). Small moments have such great memories. As a Philly radio jock, I got to know Phil a little around the Live Aid time. I was impressed with his drive and his tenacity. We never talked about his personal life...after all, I'm no Barbara Walters. If there is a lesson here, it might be that even if you are a star, it is important to not live your life like one. Balance your life and family, and don't let your career ruin all of the things you worked hard to achieve. Phil didn't just start drinking later in life. He had been doing it for awhile. I had seen enough rock stars and starlets fall on hard times that I took a look at my life as a result. I stopped any kind of partying completely. I'm talking 100% stopped. Every day has been much better ever since. Phil would be much better off now if he had done the same. I really feel for him, because I have seen this life track in so many others. If you are a young guy or girl and you look at Phil and tell yourself, "that could never be me," then think again. There are literally thousands of creative people that have ended up sad and depressed. The way to avoid it is to make better decisions NOW. "It's always the same it's just a shame, that's all." So, take a tip from Art Houston, and avoid a lot of needless drama. Drama belongs in a script, not in your life.

As one who has never stopped listening to Phil solo or with Genesis in some fashion practically every day it is tough to see how his life has turned out. I could never stand those who claimed he "ruined" Genesis. The direction Genesis took with him as front man was categorically chosen by ALL the band members and ALL the band members reaped the financial benefits and fame. Again, Tony and Mike contributed to the musical writing and direction just as much as Phil did. And I love all of it.

One thingI noticed about Phil back in the day is that he really really enjoyed performing. I remember he was on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson one time, they chatted then Johnny asked him to do a song and he delightedly jumped up and ran over to the piano and started to play, looking like he was having more fun than anyone in the room. You could see he was doing something he truly loved to do. His statement, " I can play the piano and sing, I'm in a very happy place. " said it all.

I think it's a snobby myth that was put about by professional Music critics of the time who had a very narrow and rigid remit of what constituted as good music. They were so up there own rear that they would often publish their own definition of the top ten albums of all time. Mostly the same choices as their contemparies If you read one critics list you could read the next one blind folded. One of the few , good things about the social media era - Is that people are less judged on what music they like then in previous decades. When hit makers and musicians who connected directly with the masses like Collins and bands like Journey were denigrated and their fans dismissed as having no taste. Professional Music Critics and pretentious publications like Q magazine are all but redundant nowadays. Much of the music that was labelled as mush for the masses back then has been afforded a new level of respect and acceptance through it's use in TV shows and the like. Melody conquers all. Collins had a rare gift for melody and a commercial sound. As a musician myself I can say that it's very easy to write zany left field stuff even more hard to write a well crafted pop song with a good melody.

Yes to me there were two Phil Collins the one with the earlier Genesis when they were doing the really creative works and then I didn't care for them much after the late 70s . It is all very tragic and I feel for the guy. It's interesting that the other members of Genesis were married and raising kids in the 70's without problems. Rutherford and Banks often brought their families on tour with them, at least during school holidays, but Collins seemed to like to keep the two worlds very separate. Perhaps this was at the core of why his previous marriages fell apart. As for his health issues, these are truly tragic. He was an incredible musician, and although I wasn't a fan of his solo work, Genesis are my all time favourite band. The day this chap falls off his perch, it's gonna hit me pretty hard.

Phil is a very intelligent musician. There are a lot of people who call themselves artists because they are shit musicians. Phil is a great musician who is very creative. I’m not really a big fan of all his music but I know he is a great musician who can play many different styles if he wants to. Good luck to the man !

That is weird folks are stuck on “looks”. Every time I hear a creative tell an eloquent story or tell a beautiful tale in a song like I have hardly never heard anyone do? I always tell them “you did a Phil Collins” to me and to them. It is the biggest compliment. He is a beautiful soul. I want to tell a story myself the way he can. ❤️

Sad to hear but Phil we still love you. So much talent and so many great memories... Even as a young kid I loved the weird stories of early Genesis to the teen years of your solo career and as a middle aged guy now your jazz... Wish life would have been happier for you but but because of you a lot of other people were happy... thank you.

I was at the final night at the final tour of Genesis……. The O2 London, better known to me as Docklands Millennium Dome. Emotional……….. I thought it would be difficult to experience, as a life long fan….. but, the band were spot on and Phil knocked it out of the park…… visibly rising towards the end. Out with a bang 🙂🇬🇧🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

He was always waaay underrated. I've seen him with Genesis since their early days when he was just their drummer and they've always been great. However I saw them in Birmingham earlier this year and he sat on a chair all the way thru, and his voice was more shot than Paul McCartney is nowadays; and that's saying something!

I will always love Phil Collins and his music. I've never been to a concert of his, but I do know he's very talented and along with those great musicians he collaborated with throughout his career thus far. His love for music is in every note he sings. My dad was a drummer in a band before he passed away. Listening to Phil Collins play the drums reminds me of my dads passion for drums and the music his own band played. I hope that one day I get to see phil Collins perform live ❤🎶

I came back to Genesis during Covid and fell into that deep, luxurious rabbit hole of music. Then it was on to Phil, Mike and Peter's solo work. What an amazing catalogue of music! Frankly, though The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (Genesis) is my favorite album of all time, it would be impossible to select a favorite. Just about anything Phil drums in or sings is my favorite. Check out his drumming on the Brand X albums he played (jazz/fusion). Between all that and his charity work I think we should overlook any mistakes of judgement in his sex life. He remains a national icon.
