Oh, Man! Thanks for posting. R.I.P., Gord Downie. I was at this concert! The Box were the headliner. I was really there to see The Box, as they were my favourite Canadian band at the time. What happened to The Box was, as far as I could see, a main act's worst nightmare: having your audience blown away by the act that comes on before you. For me, the memory is still very vivid: Gord Downie and The Hip just bursting with energy -- to the point where one might wonder if there was something wrong with Gord, he was so twitchy and spastic. I mean, grunge music as a term, hadn't even been coined. And Nirvana's "Nevermind" was still a year away. So to have a full-on guitar rock band come out, with a grungy look and a front man who was flipping around like Gord, was completely foreign. Then, take that energy and follow it with The Box, which was more a synth-pop band than a guitar band, and we were left there to ponder where music was headed, because wherever it was going, The Box was old-fashioned and was not going to be part of it.

Woooo! good ol' barrie ontario! I remember seeing this, man, I was like 4 years old. I live within walking distance of Molson Park. Too bad the park is gone though, they tore it all apart about 4-5 years apart. They have just built new stores in it's place that have opened yesterday. I work there now, and while at work, I had the memory of the Hip stuck in my head. I had to youtube it to see if anyone had an upload of it. Estatic to see someone uploaded it.

I was there. Hip, TPOH, Grapes of Wrath, The Box. Tix were $5 at Pizza Pizza. I forget if you had to buy a slice. The 400 was jammed and there were approx. 45000 people there as I recall. It looked like 100,000 to me lol
