Great stove! Picked up my first Esbit stove in West Germany 1987-1988. Great way to heat up MRE's and coffee. Still have it, too!

Love those Esbit stoves !! As economical, and versatile as they come. They're designed to burn solid fuel tabs, but can be used as a twig stove, an alcohol stove , by using a fancy feast cat can, or tuna can filled with alcohol, can be used with , or without any kind of wick, they're adjustable for large, or small cooking pots and generally as versatile as can be found. The German Army has used them for many years, and as far as I know, they're still using them in the field. Thanks for a useful video ... Cheers.

You could fill a tuna can with alcohol as you said. Good idea. 👍🏻 You can also fit a little Sterno can in there too.

I use an empty small bumblebee tuna can, or an empty 177 pellet tin, with sterno fuel in it, it fits in the Esbit stove nicely.

You made laugh with the fire cubes. When I was in the army we had those to heat our MREs. Canada's military has a proud tradition of being a bilingual force. So the fire cubes that were labeled "Poison" had no other identifycation. More than a few French speaking recruits got an unsavoury mouthful because they misread "Poison" as "Poisson", which is French for fish. So I always made sure all my recruits understood the obvious. Some might point out that this was a ridiculous mistake since "poison" in english is also "poison" in french. Given the context of the word with the MRE it was an easy mistake. Proper labeling is important, that's why we have poison symbols now in addition to the word.

Esbit Stoves are great solid fuel stoves PROVIDED that you’ll use it with either a windscreen or you’ll find a natural wind barrier for the wind will eat your whole solid fuel! I had a long experience using these stoves and it’s kinda hit or Miss depending on the condition around you hence why I stopped using it and I started using a Trangia Alcohol storm cooker (#27 &#25) and I never looked back thereafter.

Eating from dishes or cups or pots is fine so long as one has the ability to properly sanitize it when finished. I prefer to carry freeze dried foods or mre's but rarely do I use the cup as a meal container. My trash I either packed out with me or bury it at least two feet. I've tried liquid fuel stoves but find them more geared toward big backpacking trips, in small rucksacks the esbit stove with solid fuel tabs in THE way to go! light weight, small, and fool proof!

Another enjoyable video, PW 👀👍. ➡Now for a different type of question but do you know how much longer a burn time you can get versus the potential loss in efficiency with having heat diverted from cooking to be used for drying and igniting the wood? 🚧I guess I am wondering where is that sweet spot with the amount of wood to add? 🚧 😀Thanks again!😀😁

Thx for your interesting vid. Actually, if you're going to pile twigs on your Esbit tab anyway, you only need one tab, or even only part of one. Or none at all if you have a really cheap fire starter like vaseline soaked cotton balls. And, the whole time you're eating your ramen, I'm thinking of the can of Hormel Chili with beans and meat that I always take along. It ain't that much heavier considering you've got to hydrate your noodles with water. Never could stand ramen. ;-)

Esbit stoves have always been an issue with me... don't know why. I do have a couple, and I've even modded them with side aircraft aluminum windscreens that fit into place when you fold them for smaller pots. I think it was first, the fact that for many years, everyone was disappointed that one Esbit hexamine cube couldn't bring 2 cups of water to a boil on it's own using this stove. I've done so many things to try to improve. I thought that maybe a trioxane tab might work better... nope, I found it doesn't. I'm sticking to a small alcohol stove for the lightweight kits, and the wood burning folding stoves for the larger kits. That's my kit now.

Nice! I always keep an Esbit in all my Kits. I'm glad you shared that it doesn't stop working just because you don't have any Tablets for it. Heck, toss a couple of Tea Candles in it and a Mini Bic, then put it in a Ziploc, Bob's your Uncle. Thanks again and Take Care.

A bit of SPAM, potted meat or sausage improves the flavour of ordinary Ramen; just dice it up into 6 or 7 mm bits and add to the noodles... Cheers.

Thoroughly enjoyed your video of the Esbit stove and making lunch in the woods. I have one in my emergency kit but have yet to use it. Liked the Ramen concoction you put together for lunch. Recognized the "Diablo" hot sauce from TB, right? Being in Texas, I'd probably use Cholula hot sauce, Tapatio, or Texas Pete for heat/flavor. When in Rome...
