Just so you know, there's no need to dismantle the light or remove the tail cap to get out of momentary mode. Just loosen the tail cap a quarter to a half turn and tighten it back up. Good review though 👌

@@TrailTrek Also, temperature calibration is the first thing you should do when you get a new light with Anduril. I'll explain it writing here so you can refer back to it if you need to. VERY IMPORTANT - Set the light to a low level because the process itself starts to heat up the internals. Make sure the light has been off long enough to be at room temperature and make note of what that room temperature is in Celsius. This is important; try to accomplish this quickly, but don't rush so much that you screw it up lol Turn the light on with 3 clicks (this is battery check, but that's not important and you can ignore whatever the voltage is and move past this immediately) Now double click 3 times. This will be temperature check. Now click 4 times. This puts the light in temperature calibration mode. The light is going to blink once and then start to flicker. While the light is flickering, click in the room temperature. For example, if room temperature is 20C, click 20 times and wait for the light to stop flickering. Now the light is going to blink twice and start to flicker, (this is for setting the thermal limit for the light to start stepping down) While it's flickering, do the following. If you want to set the limit at 50C, click 20 times. If you want to set the limit at 55C, click 25 times. 60C would be 30 clicks. You can set the limit at 53C by clicking 23 times. The default is 45C which is 15 clicks. Once you're finished just wait a few seconds for the light to stop flickering. At this point the light will start to blink out its temperature (you're still in temp check), but you can just click once and turn the light off. YOU'RE DONE ! 😊 I know it sounds like a lot, but it's all done in about 1 minute. I would suggest after doing this that you re-check the temperature of the light a few times to make certain it is calibrated accurately. This requires a total cool down of the light each time, but try to get it as close as possible. If you need to calibrate it again, just follow the steps above and only do the first blink and flicker. You can just do nothing on the double blink and flicker and wait for it to exit out. If you do nothing, no changes are made. I hope I explained this in a way you can understand it. You'll find that it's not difficult at all. Happy programming 😁
@mr.frandy7692 Жыл бұрын
Wait you said, "double click 3 times" so IS that two clicks three time in a row for a total of 6 clicks or do you just mean click 3 times again. LOL just a little unsure by what you meant there. @@craigs7181

Good stuff. I think I remember you sharing initial impressions around new year's. I also like this one a lot . The beam profile doesn't bother me at all either.

Yeah I've carried this for weeks now. Beam is fine for a x4 led smooth. They did a good job. Not much to complaint about this light other than the button, but I'm being very picky there.

Very nice review. I like the comparisons with regards to the beam shape and tint along with the output on the wall. Very useful. I do think though that this flashlight is obviously a walking lamp and not meant to be an EDC. I think that it may be possible to change the switch cover. The fittings are the same. However, it of course may be a different switch underneath. A little bit of investigating is needed.
@TrailTrek3 жыл бұрын
Yeah you accurately describe the best use of this light. And it's how I use it. It's my go to grab light right now when I walk out for a long walk in the dark, I love how even though this is an EDC it packs a large cell so I'm not worried about runtimes.
@georgecostanza26953 жыл бұрын
I have an MF01 and wanted that kind performance in a handheld format and the FT02S fit the bill; at least it comes damn close. The beam pattern isn’t perfect but when lighting up a large area outdoors (which is what this light is meant for) it’s hardly noticeable. Anduril is also a very welcome update from the basic UI that was on Astrolux’s original UI. **sorry, just noticed the following was already mentioned. I’m going to leave it since I already spent so,much time typing it 😁 Anyways, great review! Keep it up!! Just a couple FYIs: The temperature setting is not just a readout… going into the calibration mode (4 clicks after entering readout mode) allows you to 1-calibrate the light’s ambient temp sensor and 2-set what temp you want the light starts stepping down. I do always calibrate my Anduril equipped lights since it’s often not done at the factory (especially Astrolux), potentially robbing you of significant turbo time. Secondly, to turn off momentary after 5 clicks, it’s not necessary to completely unscrew the light… just a half turn at the tail cap does the job because the threads are anodized at that end. The half turn can also be used as a manual lockout.

I have this in green colour xhp version and the power is insane. Maybe i am so excited because is my first high lumens flashlight but as far as i tested the beam is plenty of floody and with good throw, at 200m nothing escapes from this. I using the Samsung's 40t. Nice review man!

Good battery choice I love my Samsung's. And I agree with you, you make good points. The powerful floody beam was so much fun to play with when I tested it on a river. It allowed me to see so much. Also close range doesn't suffer from to many artifacts for the price and output. They did a good job, astrolux are killing it recently.

@@TrailTrek it is my first astrolux product and sure would be not the last and i trust your opinion about this. One more thing because i read negative comments about the beam. The beam is fine it doesn't affect your usage and as i checked the maked the reflector in such a way that the outer beam of the center is also capable to reach far as you said. I recently picked up the Sofirn SP36 Pro and I absolutely can’t stand the beam pattern!! It’s a great form factor and love that it take 3 18650s but it is hard for me to get used to the ugly rings and artifacts in the beam. Is this light a lot better in regards to the beam, in comparison?
@TrailTrek3 жыл бұрын
Hi although yes I think this one is better the issue is they still both use a multi emitter smooth reflector so unfortunately you still get some artefacts at cloose range. I do think they limited it on this light but I can't say it's perfect. Check the beam shots on the wall I did. There is nothing worse than an annoying beam. It's ruins want light.

I was looking and the sst40 was like $15 cheaper than the 50.2 do you think it's worth the extra money for the brighter even tho the other ones are supposed to go further
@TrailTrek3 жыл бұрын
I would say that it depends what you are going to use it for. If you want to get a bit more throw the sst will do that. I've done quite a few examinations now and I'm finding that holds true. But then if you want more lumens the Cree is the way to go. Also remember on really low settings the sst have a little bit of a green tint which can annoy.
@jbr84tx3 жыл бұрын
What are the throw numbers for the sst40 and the 50.2?

Sorry for late reply I've been so busy here. Sst40 usually come in at around 500 meters in something with a large smooth reflector. The Cree will be less than that. You always get more throw on the sst stuff.

What is the best battery for Astrolux FT02S - XHP50.2 - 11000LM? Shockli IMR 26650 / 3.7V / 5500mah / 30A or Liitokala 26650 / Lii-50A / 3.7v / 5000mah ?
@TrailTrek2 жыл бұрын
Hi that's a great question as cells can get a bit confusing. The 2 things to concentrate on are capacity and discharge. Both of those cells claim to have 5000mah and 5500mah so similar capacity of energy. However notice the Shlockli claims a discharge of 30 amps where the Liitokala does not, if you look up the max continuous discharge on the Liitokala it states 5amps which is not suitable for a high drain flashlight like this. i would buy the Shockli IMR 26650 / 3.7V / 5500mah / 30A. I hope that helps. if you have any more questions I'm always happy to help.

I completely understand where you are coming from. If I was to write down the basics of the manual and hand it to a new user they would look at me like I'm an idiot. And I'm also a bit guilty of getting used to this style of UI so when I pick up a new one is much the same as the last one. The best advice I can give is to write out the basics on a bit of paper and go through them and after a while you get to remember it like learning a new language. Having all these options is lovely but of course the price to pay is having to memorize it all! I think in the future we will start using small screens on lights. The nitecore TUP uses a little screen and I feel like that is the future in many ways. I'm here to help if you get stuck mate. 👍😃
