It's true that making music is all about the long term regardless of how you approach the business - for me it took two years from my first released work before I started seeing any royalties at all.So in the beginning you really need to do like Edmond says and just make music for the beauty of the art.

Great interview!! I'm still a bit green at this but I've no longer made the hard press to get onto the typical producer/music industry relationship. Music placements is where my efforts are focused. I'm learning the ins and outs of contacting music supervisors. It's a different type of business but I like the freedom of it. This along with all your videos are very informative and well appreciated. Thanks so much for sharing.

I really benefitted a lot from Edmond’s tutorials in the sync licensing course, and I agree that his work is super inspiring. I’m constantly referring back to his advice as I now start writing trailers the *right* way. Also, I’m relieved to hear that neither of you watch TV! I only watch football and baseball and have been concerned this could be an impediment. Glad it’s not.

I would like to see more interviews with Edmond. I am well versed in advanced music theory for composition, but didn't really know how to apply it to trailer music until now.

I've been trying to cut down my tv (Netflix) time... I will say that I do get inspired from it though! Thank you guys!! So motivating, so inspirational... I've landed a few placements through APM (reverbnation) on MLB Tonight, NHL, ect… but am starting to build a catalogue. Wish you guys the best!!! Lets grind!!!

Do you guys use a lot of EQ? I realized that my old mixes sound farty and cardboxy because I left too much mids in there. You get the polish by cutting mids. How do you guys do it?
@djrobwilliam1673
@djrobwilliam1673 6 жыл бұрын
All sounds are made up of their own group of these frequencies (audibly 20Hz-20kH) Some sounds are the majority of these midrange frequencies so you don't want to just "cut mids to polish". I suggest you learn about sweeping in the EQ. You basically just boost a specific range of frequencies so you can find out which frequencies sound bad that you may want to cut out. Once the specified range is boosted and you find what you don't like, then you simply cut out the range using the settings within the EQ. I will be uploading tutorial videos this week on how to help new composers understand the concepts of sound and the equalization process. I'm always happy to help other producers and I enjoyed this video and the many others @Sync My Music creates. God Bless and please subscribe. Trying to get to 50 on my brand new channel.

When you EQ try to keep all parts in mind because to make it sound cleaner and more powerful each parts needs its own space. So if you boost the same frequency for multiple parts it gets muffled and muddy sounding competing with each other. It's best to first cut frequencies that weaken the sound and then boost frequencies that compliment the part while keeping in mind to fit each parts EQ around each other's space

If you can't play a lick of basketball, wearing a $200 pair of Jordan's isn't going to help. If you are a basketball phenom, you can destroy the competition with a cheap pair of Wal-Mart sneakers. If you're a basketball phenom wearing a $200 pair of Jordan's, you're Hans Zimmer.
