To put the dust covers over the bearings, try a 1.5 or 2 inch PVC pipe cut about a foot+ long. It fits right on the rim of the cap, does not crush the cap and the foot long handle gives you better control to hold the cap perfectly aligned with the spindle as you tap it in.

It is 2022... and after watching a dozen of similar videos , I can safely say yours was the best , most practical and detailed. With this video you have gained one new subscriber. I would only request a longer list of the items you have used(recommend) in addition to the ones in the description... like the disks to cut metal and clean up rust. paint used,etc.( this will be helpful for a newby like me). Thank you!!

Excellent work my dude! Just two things I noticed, get some grease on the hinges for your drop gate, and get some wire loom tubing on your light wires! Those thin gauge wires need protection from abrasion.
@fuzzy58683 жыл бұрын
Nice job on the trailer. I had 5x10 TWF trailer a year ago, I rewired the trailer from front to back. I encased the harness in wire loom and used PVC from the tongue back so the harness was completely protected, only leaving a small section uncovered that plugged into the truck. I also used heat shrink tubing after the wires were spliced. Wish I had pictures of it but I sold the trailer

If you go to Home Depot or Lowe’s grab you a handful of those cards in the paint section with the different color choices those were great for sticking in around the rubber and the side of the rim. I did on lawnmower tires and worked great and then just throw away. Best part is there free!

Very nice! I'm getting ready to do the same thing to a 16' tandem axle trailer, but I have to cut the gate off, straighten it and weld on new hinges. I'm going to put used oil on my boards. The most impressive thing in the video is that there is someone out there that still knows how to grease a bearing!

The floor board replacement was interesting. My old bed was rotted enough that when I drove a load of junk to the dump I just tore the bed out right there. I don't have a welding rig or experience and I've been contemplating how I get the new planks in with both ends captured by steel. Thought I'd have to grind the front flat bar off and then bold a replacement with angle steel but the method you used has given me another option. How many boards did you have to flex to get into place?
@blastrestoration5453 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching!! I had to flex the last 3 boards! you can get the sides to go in without flexing them and finish in the middle!
@cra2cra226 Жыл бұрын
I've seen this method a few times, but it's a little time consuming and risky. Instead of grinding the whole front flat bar off, just grind an 8" or 12" gap - whatever is the size of your widest board. Then simply push the boards into the steel "trap" at the other end of the trailer and set them down through that gap at this end of the trailer. Slide them left & right til you're down to the last board. After you set that one in, put a wide washer on it and drive a hole through the board and through the metal flap below. Then put a bolt through that hole and tighten it underneath. From then on, any time you wanna re-do the boards, you just reverse that bolt out and change all your boards, then punch a hole in the last board (up through the hole you left in the bottom flap). Re-do the bolt and you're done. If you are concerned about moisture getting into the hole of that one final board, you could put a sealant around the washer you added at the top & bottom of the board. Bottom line - you can reduce the work of changing out boards to tightening & loosening a single bolt. No more standing on 3 bent boards under pressure - which might be really hard if you're working on a shorter trailer with less length for the boards to flex. And no more knocking the post out of the way while they snap back into shape. (though, I've seen some do that with a jack from underneath so there's no snapping the board back into shape - you just lower the jack slowly and the board slides into place.)

Nice work. Goes to show that quality work can be done with the "not so expensive" tools. You'll probably want to put another coat or two of the Thompson's on the wood before winter and maybe another in the spring. The stuff works, just not for long. Easy to add coats though. Avoid polyurethanes and spar varnish, they'll check and flake when the UV beats them up.

I still landscape, I can cut all day, but this is a little much for me. I'm thinking of getting black deck paint instead for the wood, boards are fine.
