I like the RL28, if we get another yacht it's high on the short list. All the modifications that you've done to improve Neringa are fantastic, I'm sure you've helped and inspired many viewers. Cheers

Sailed a dinghy out there, a spot nearby you can stand in waist deep water and see no land in any direction, lovely spot just don’t scare the birds on the island in breeding season too much.

Hi Paul, Yes I was very aware of not scaring the birds too much. I did one walk along the beach and use a telephoto lens to get the nest footage. I was reassured to see the birds returning to their nests fairly quickly once past. It is an amazing spectacle though, but as you say needs care to observe. Sadly there is a sign about the island set back about 100m from the water and I tried to see what it said but gave up as it disturbed the birds to much to reach it.

Always another trip. With my work schedule I mostly start my trips on fridays and come back in on the sunday. Don't always know until a day or two before that I am definitely going out. Weather was beautiful this time although only really good sailing weather the first day.

Great video again. How is the running rigging set up on that self tailing jib. Looks like a line from the clew to a block on the self tacking traveller back to another block at the bow near the anchor and then back along the portside to another block and then I huess back to a jammer near the cockpit so you can trim ?

I'm in two minds about the self tacking jib. It is great when using the standard jib but it stops you using bigger genoas. With the jib only it makes for very easy single handed sailing, just steer and the jib takes care of itself. It isn't great when setting sails for downwind as the sheet comes of the last block too close to the bow of the boat compared to the standard block half way back. I am thinking of setting the boat up to be able to use either depending on conditions. On the self tacker starting from the cockpit the sheet runs from the winch and cleat (can be either side of the boat) down one side to the bow of the boat close to the nose to a central block. It runs from this block to a block attached to a sliding track on the self tacking rail and then to the sail.

Did you Moor or use a overnight berth at Portarlington?
@TRAILERYACHTADVENTURES4 жыл бұрын
I often just anchor in the big area inside the habour on the left after you enter. If I want to do lots of things ashore I will take one of the free pile berths on the Jetty straight ahead of the entrance. Its a bit tricky tying up in these solo so I often don't. With a couple of people on board it would be a lot easier. You can climb straight up onto the jetty from your boat from these. Cheers Mark

Have you had any security issues leaving your car and trailer in a deserted car park overnight? That would be one of my concerns.
@TRAILERYACHTADVENTURES3 жыл бұрын
I have become a bit fatalistic when it comes to parking at boat ramps. Having said that StHelens is probably one of the best to leave you car at. I park in the first row behind the toilet/coast guard building and towards the water front end. Longest I have left it was 7 days with 4 or 5 days many times. Never had an issue. In the position I park I am next to where the coast guard parks, In view of the water where I might be in a boat, all the houses on the hill overlook the carpark my car is in plain view and lastly, the buildings have no graffiti and there aren't skid marks all over the car park. All this tells me it is one of the safer ramps. Of course there is no guarantee and that's why you have to be a bit fatalistic otherwise you would just not get out there cruising. Other carparks I have used this way are warmies in Williamstown and Hastings. Warmies is far riskier but never had an issue there and Hastings is a bit like StHelens but I have only parked there twice for 5 days each time. Just use your common sense and make your car as visible and risky for vandals as possible. Hope this gives some reassurance. Cheers Mark
