Breakfasted at Tom's on a weekly basis during my years living up on Morningside Heights (1979-1987) as a Columbia undergrad and later. Great place -- and yes, everybody did know you and remember you. The only thing that has changed is that one no longer gets the 3 ounce plastic cup of fresh orange-juice for free with the "breakfast special" -- but I think they still break it out on the weekends. Last had lunch there in May 2019. Of course, Seinfeld made the facade famous, but there was an even cooler place just across the street a block away called "The Mill". It was owned by Holocaust survivors whose tattooed numbers would occasional peak out from beneath their serving uniforms. It was all quite wonderful in the early 80s before the waves of gentrification sanitized it all. Thank god Tom's still remains as a landmark among a few others from those times.

What always gets me is once you picked a place and you know you are going to film there the. At least try to get the set close to what the size would be. Meaning the door for the studio dinner is way on the right and this door is in the middle of the restaurant

Monk's Diner...in Seinfeld they always take great care to never show the Tom's, only Restaurant....but in one episode (I wish I would have written down which one it was) they mess up and they show the whole name...(Yes I'm a seinfeld junkie...lol)

That is because they could not come to agreement about how much royalty per month . . So producers cut the name out of all future footage... too bad ... was worth it even without getting royalties. . Free advertising. Anyway .. they have no shortage of customers... with a new crop every school year .. . I lived next door and ate and hung out there for over 10 years almost daily in 80's and 90's ... never saw Obama there

This video does not represent the utter contempt of the staff to customers, the pure greed of the place and the grease of the food. Tourist trap of the worst order. If you are a Seinfeld fan and travelled thousands of miles take my advice, take a picture outside and move swiftly on, this place is a shit hole.
