Twice Upon a Time (1983) #WarnerArchive #WarnerBros #TwiceUponaTime
Twice Upon a Time (1983) coming 9/29 to DVD fully remastered in Widescreen and with a bunch of special features including Dual audio tracks - Theatrical PG Audio Track and unrated family-friendly director’s audio track as well as a Commentary track with director John Korty and collaborators John Baker, Harley Jessup, Brian Narelle, Will Noble, Henry Selick and Carl Willat.
Once upon a time sweet dreams were delivered to people while they slept from sunny Frivoli, and nightmares came from the mysterious Murkworks. But the rulers of Murkworks were not content--they wanted everyone to suffer nightmares every night. So they tricked the Deliverers of Dreams to bring them the mainspring of the Cosmic Clock, knowing that whoever controls the Cosmic Clock controls time and the universe. Now a battle has been engaged to restore the balance of dreams, as the most magical creatures that can be imagined enter the fray.
Directed By John Korty, Charles Swenson
Starring Lorenzo Music, Judith Kahan, Marshall Efron

SAMEEEEEEEE! My mom showed me this movie around 28 years ago (I was ~10) and never remembered the title (she never has, either)! I have been thinking about asking Reddit if they could figure it out, but while I was mulling over what type of question I would ask, I figured out another Google search I could do for it and BOOM, HERE I AM, AT LAST!!!!!! This scratches a 30-year itch!

I remember this film from the 1980s. I watched it on TG4 (formerly known as TnaG) twice in the 2000s and I thought I never saw any animated films like this before. It's probably one of the most underrated animated films of all time. It was notably the first animated film to be produced by Lucasfilm and it was notably the first Lucasfilm film to be distributed by Warner Bros as well. Warner Bros. currently owns the rights of this film so despite Lucasfilm now being owned by Disney.

My brother and I loooved this when we were kids! "Welcome to the Garbagerie. Just follow the happy feet." "...salami, drying in this closet," we loved Uncle Greenie, Ralph, the Fig Men of Imagination, Flora Fauna, and most of all Mumford. Rudee and the Minions, Synonymous Botch... Ratatouille, and "... he's a writer, he's nobody." Just tickled our funny bones, it did. Good, clean fun.

For the record, John Korty didn't want the version with the profanity released to the general public but once it was out, Korty hit the ceiling. The profanity-filled version later aired on HBO in 1984 but after three airings, Korty threatened to sue the network unless the family-friendly, clean version was aired. HBO threw in the towel and never aired the film in any way again.

@@JacqueArmijo There is a *cleaner* version that has some of the dialogue changed and maybe a shot or two cut from the movie. Like, there's a scene where Botch is showing them the slideshow about the Rushers of Din and the Atomic Clock, and iirc, one of the slides is a nude woman, and that shot was removed/changed. There's also a bit (not a whole lot) of Botch's dialogue that has cussing, which they changed.

@yelloweyeball
@yelloweyeball 11 ай бұрын
Bozzetto and John Korthy were both geniuses. I can see his influence in this, especially if you look at the modernist backgrounds in the Mr. Rossi cartoons. This also reminds me of Bozzetto's feature film, Super Vips. The main character even kind of looks like Ralph, the all purpose animal from this film. This style also reminds me of the British film, yellow submarine though.

For some strange reason, I think I want to see this cast of characters appear in a Christmas-Themed movie. I mean the voice cast might be different, but the animation of Lumage could be brought back through computer technology. The only question is... how would, could, and can computer technology help to improve, and/or advance the animation of Lumage? ...how? /:
@yelloweyeball
@yelloweyeball 2 жыл бұрын
Lumage could definately be brought back with computer technology. All you would have to do is make several premade assets on a design software, and have them at 60 or 70 percent opacity, and move them around as if they were Cut out sheets under an animation camera. I've experimented with it a little on some scenes in aminated shorts, but A feature like that, using a sort of fake computer generated lumage would be interesting.

@DUKE_of_RAMBLE
@DUKE_of_RAMBLE 3 жыл бұрын
One could argue that the "SE" versions were indeed, given how contrasting the new CG was in those. Jar-Jar likely was a scraped char from this film (though in fairness, Lucas was only an Exec Prod on this), given how contrasting _he_ was in 1,2,3. haha Making 7,8,9 in this style would've been good, though! At least it could easily be (see: minimal effort) retconned as just being the ""force-vision of future events"" of some remaining Jedi Master in hiding, triggered by Vader's passing -- ala Kenobi sensing Alderaan, or Yoda sensing Kenobi's blue-glowy ascention. 😅☺️ _(but thank god for the 'Rebels' cartoon series being cannon, though, as there's already the mechanic in place to completely erase/undo 7,8,9... AND for it's creator/showrunner, along with that of 'The Mandalorian', being extremely motivated to do *exactly that*; so thankful for them!! ♥️)_ [/mega-ramble] _(edit: spehlung iz hard)_

@@tammyjej, that's incorrect- CN has, in fact, shown Twice Upon a Time, multiple times. I should know this, because I watched this movie, each time it aired!!!

I remember watching this movie on CN multiple times when I was a kid. As for the movie's quality, I freely admit my nostalgia bias. I don't know if I would love this film as much had my initial viewing happened now. Yet on the other hand, I find it impossible to see how one could down right hate this film because it has some very strong redeeming qualities. The major flaw is the flimsy story structure but the characters are enough to compensate for that short coming, IMO.
