The smoke pretty much left northern Wi. and it looks like it moved down to you. I used to climb up the C&NW semaphore bridges when I was a kid. One day when I was 6 I took some clothes line and tied the semaphore that was in the stop position to the railing. The thing was trying to raise and going "whirrrr click". The next commuter train to come along came to a screeching stop and one of the guys climbed down out of the engine and then went up on the bridge to cut the rope. The semaphore seemed relieved as it went to the up position. The guy climbed back in the engine cursing up a storm. I just sat quietly in the bushes and watched. Yeah, I was a bad boy. Hate to see more rail being taken out, they should be putting more in. Great video, enjoyed it much. Thanks JT!

@@JawTooth If you ever make it up to Cleveland sometime check out the old clark railroad yard. The CL&W and CT&V subs run to this yard. Lots of old stuff left over from the B&O. The 2 CPLs in clark yard are no longer working, but the dwarf signals at the drawbridge are still working. Sadly a CPL on the CL&W sub was removed for a bridge/road project about 15 years ago in Parma Ohio. One Regular CPL still stands north of Brookpark road ,while the other for trains heading north was replaced with a triangular light tri light signal. These 2 signals protect the crossing of the Cleveland Shortline sub,and the CL&W sub. There is a old semaphore signal post right before clark yard, not sure when the signal was removed, or stolen. This semaphore is in someone's video from years ago.

Thank you for this video of the trains that you saw in Piqua, Troy and Tipp City, Ohio on 28 June 2023, Jaw Tooth! The smoke from the wildfires in Quebec, Canada was causing problems for you on that day. Those old Baltimore & Ohio signals are great to see. I hope that they will be around for a while. The heron on the bridge over the Great Miami River waited as long as it could before it flew off in front of the train.

I recall seeing the old B&O signals on the tracks around northeastern to southeastern Ohio. that was in the Chessie System era, nearing CSX takeover. there was still lots of B&O equipment everywhere, as well as Chessie System and some CSX stuff. I was a kid and grandfather conductor on semi-local daily freight, I gratefully got to ride along multiple times, in the cabooses and engines, even in the engineers seat while underway and told what lever to move where and when to turn the bell on/horn sequence, all going very slow in small city/rural area, through crossings ( they'd for sure all be terminated now days for that). good memories though. I have ridden on B&O, Chessie System and CSX branded equipment, that was in the 1980's to early 1990's. I still have a keychain of ancient keys he used as conductor and yard foreman beforehand. I wish had kept all the hand filled log books, incident reports and other items, but just couldn't store the stuff.

Great video as always! But this one is a bit special for me, about 30 years ago I spent some time in Troy undergoing factory service training at the Hobart Manufacturing factory. They make restaurant equipment (dishwashers, mixers, slicers, etc.), I spent a total of about a month and a half there on 3 separate trips. Wasn't a big railfan at the time, too busy with job & family stuff to chase trains (dammit!), no car while in Ohio anyway. Don't know if Hobart moved anything in or out by rail, maybe somebody can leave a note here. Thanks again, Brian!

One of my favorite street-running sections is in the darndest place - Dupont Highway - US 13 - between the DE/PA state line and Philadelphia. What makes it quirky is that US 13 changes sides of Interstate 95 in the city of Chester, PA - yet it still has a freight rail track alongside, in addition to SEPTA and AMTRAK. This is the only place south of CT where passenger trains can street run.
