That ship's the Cutty Sark. She was built in Scotland for the tea trade from China to GB in the 1860's. Like other ships in this trade she was built for speed, the faster the tea arrived the higher the price it would fetch. She was one of the last such ships built, & was one of the fastest. She didn't last long in the tea trade, steam powered ships were becoming more reliable & cost effective. She survives to this day & is in the Greenwich Museum, London. Cutty Sark is an old Scots' word for a chemise or a short nightdress, you'll find it in Tam o' Shanter. One of the witches is dancing in her cutty sark when she's seen by Tam. If you don't know the poem it's well worth searching out, as is much of Burns' work.

The Cutty Sark was a tea clipper and one of the fastest ships of its time. These clippers would transport tea from India and China, and the first ones back to the UK would command the best price for their cargo. Tea was worth lots of money back then. Another locker from the same person for $1? Somebody up there is looking over you!

It caught fire some years back, extensive damage, huge rebuild. I remember visiting it many times as a child. It had a strange but pleasant tar like smell. Happy memories.

@@bonobo2go Remember that tar was used to impermeabilize the wooden ships back then. If the restorers wanted to keep it as close to the original as they could, maybe they used tar, too!

Carry a small, battery powered, hand held blower to help you blow the lockers out. It will also help keep the concrete outside the door clean in your work area. I also used clorox wipes to clean my work table tops, tops of boxes, all dusty, dirty items, etc clean. Wipe & toss. So easy. Just a suggestion. Keep the great work up! For a service person A/F or Navy we always got a plane made in the Philippines when we went there. You have to appreciate it being completely hand made and painted. It was almost a right of passage. Because of your comments you don’t realize what you have.

That's the Cutty Sark, a ship at the heart of Britain's oceangoing trade and a symbol of the Empire. She's part of British history. The Cutty Sark was one of the last tea clippers built, and one of the fastest. When her commercial seagoing life ended she was handed over to the Royal Navy as a cadet training ship - just before WWI one of those cadets was my father. These days, Cutty Sark is moored on the Thames. She's been through a lot, including two fires, one quite recently, but she has been lovingly restored. Please get an expert to look at that model, it belongs in one of the British naval museums, either Royal Navy or the Merchant Marine.
