Trains Passing On The Hill. 3 Trains Attack The Hill & 4th Train Goes Down Around Tight Curves. Reading Lines Heritage Unit Goes Up The Hill & Union Pacific Railroad Locomotive Shoves Steel Coils Train Up. These Norfolk Southern trains are in Crescent Springs, Kentucky on the hill from the Ohio River to Elsmere, Kentucky. Watch the first train sanding the rails on the tight curve under the pedestrian bridge. Another train goes under me while on the bridge.
First a train is coming down the hill at 4:23pm on the tight reverse curves near Little Irene's in Crescent Springs. Then after the locomotives and about a bakers dozen of cars pass here comes a second train passing it going up the hill! What luck and perfect timing! Look close and you can see the sand blowing around the wheels after the engines pass. The Reading Lines Heritage Unit is working hard taking the train up the hill. You can see both trains passing each other.
Next, we have the daily unit steel coils train going up the hill with a DPU locomotive on the rear. The rear unit is a Union Pacific Railroad locomotive. This train usually runs a few hours earlier. The line was very quiet until just a little after 4pm when the first two trains in this video were caught.
I put a Rail Pace magazine in the free library with a two dollar bill hidden inside for some lucky Railfan. Then I went to the pedestrian bridge in Crescent Springs. I caught a train going up the hill just before I left. That was a good one. It had a DPU working hard taking the train up the hill. Actually, I left and came back. I went to Jimmy Johns just down the tracks a short distance and came back. I was leaving a second time when another train came. You will see it in the outro. It had another NS Heritage Unit. I will post another video showing that whole train so stay tuned.
Filmed Monday, May 22, 2023 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

That plant MIGHT be Boxelder and not Poison Ivy. Boxelder is often mistaken for Poison Ivy. It's very difficult to tell from the video, but boxelder also has three leaflets but with no reddish tinge, and the central leaflet has the same length stem as the two side leaflets. I see no reddish tinge at all on that plant. Older boxelder plants may have an additional two leaflets on the stem below the three-leaflet cluster, but I can't see any of those. Also, boxelder leaflet stems grow opposite from each other from the main stem, whereas poison ivy leaflet stems alternate from the main stems. The two plants can look VERY similar. I have a lot of Boxelder bushes on my land. I killed a TON of Poison Ivy from my land two years ago, up where the driveway comes down from the cul de sac. That stuff was EVERYWHERE up there, happily growing under the thick shade canopy and growing over some of the fence from the neighbor's land. I doused it really well with vinegar with some salt added twice about a week apart, and it all died out. I had to use a weed and brush killer on some of the more mature plants. Poison Ivy is truly NASTY stuff!

23 cars at right around 286,000 pounds each (add the "LOAD LMT" and "LT WT" markings) plus about 432,000 pounds for the lead AC44C6M and 428,000 pounds for the trailing SD70AH = 7,438,000 pounds or about 3720-ish tons. I am glad that you caught that unit "on the ground" so that we could get a good side view of the unit. It was nice to see the steel coil train again. Did you ever find out what the train number is of the steel coil train? I look forward to the full video of the Norfolk Southern train going up The Hill with the Lehigh Valley Heritage Unit on it. I wonder if someone is going to think that the $2.00 bull that you put in that magazine is phony money. Few people have seen a $2.00 bill recently. The last time a $2.00 bill was printed was in 1978.

The Reading unit was a springtime treat and this is the busy season for bees so we have one week left in-the-no mow May to help them pollinate. Bee Line service was shouldering their part of the load followed quickly by the daily passage of Steel coils and a train heavy on autos. Fun to watch the new pup on the block as diva Norfie still wonders where the tail is and that she requires a two paw radius for photo ops. I wonder if one of the viewers will spend $100 to get the autographed magazine and the $2 bill. Actually there should be several signs along the tracks in that area and refer to it as the JT Rail Trail

Charlotte, NC is a refueling stop on Amtrak's _Cresent_ and a few years ago I was waiting out the refueling lay-over there, and a freight train was standing on the opposite track right across the platform from us. I walked up to one of the tank cars and thought to myself "this thing is _huge_. It could probably blow up an entire neighborhood". (At the time I wasn't in the habit of looking up hazmat placards or looking at truck springs to tell if the car was loaded.) This while I have a collection of O-gauge trains that in my living room alone, I have enough "sinister-looking black tank cars" to give some people PTSD :D

Awesome videos as always had a Norfolk Southern Branch line, Trains down in the morning. Then back in the afternoon Monday through Friday maybe 150 ft from the back oh the house. Boxcars and oil tankers and possibly gasoline tankers. about 20 mi per hour. In Front was trucks freightliners and international cabovers with flatbeds24/7. 2 tile manufacturing plants. That's what they loaded on the boxcars. And also flatbeds. Further down the line the tankers went to huge round tanks for storage. I'm going to have to Google Earth this and see what it looks like today. Google earth it JT. Oh yeah Norfolk line came out of Canton Ohio went South.
