I'm here because the developers couldn't properly explain how to play their own game. Really blown away that they can model all these realistic (I assume) details that play a crucial role in being able to complete the scenario but then get said details completely wrong. BRO!!! This video saved my TSW2 experience. I was ready to give up because of this route. The game really sets you up for failure. Your video taught me how to set up the trains Correctly and I could tell a difference from the start. I've failed on this route about 4 times and that's a long time to make it halfway up a mountain and can't figure out why. Thank you so much Admiral!!

A couple tips for those trying to finish this scenario: 1) Make sure to set the train up exactly as Fluffy has shown. 2) If you have a red signal, back off the speed to around 10 mph until the signal changes to yellow. If you get within 1000 yds of the signal and it is still red, drop your speed to 5 mph. If you get within 200 yds, drop your speed to as close to 1 mph as you can and hold it. This way you will never have to actually come to a stop and go through the effort of getting the train moving again. Also, you can gauge how fast the train front of you based on how long it is taking to clear the signals. I found it averages around 10-15 mph. You can set that speed when you're concerned about the train in front clearing the block in time.

Same for me. I am playing this game for quite a while. Still I failed by hitting the second red signal after one hour. Couldn't stop the train. Will try again another day now that I somewhat know how to setup the locos. Man what a fail be DTG. It almost made me not play the game anymore. I have most of the DLCs but still such a scenario has to be tested.

Thank you so much! I just picked up this game and probably tried this half a dozen times before looking for help and I found this. With the game's settings, I maybe got 2/3 of the way before I got stuck, but after going along with your plan I got it first try! Before I maybe topped out at 11 mph, but this time it went almost exactly like you showed. I was overall a few minutes behind you, so I actually only had to come to a full stop once; at what was your last stop, but was able to get going again without much hassle. Again, thank you, I was getting very frustrated with this game after getting to this scenario.

Thank you so much for this. After three failed attempts over close to five hours using the [wrong] settings prompted by dovetail, I finally completed this. The info about the comms resetting the cutoff in the comments was really helpful too. I used my camera to go back and redo those settings, but the game seems to crash when jumping between first person view in the lead cab and the rear of the train. Happened twice before resigning myself to bring the camera back to the front. This was on the console version.ive got to explore if there's any easy of going to front or back in free cam mode. Yet another thing not explained on the game. Anyways, thanks again.

I know this video is about 10 months old - but THANK YOU! I came here after failing this mission at around the 2 hour mark, which is pretty soul-crushing. And as you explained, the only reason I failed it is because the instructions as supplied were incorrect and incomplete. In the first place, I couldn't even get the consist moving from the yard. Had to go look it up and run back to the rear engines to set something, and then run forward again (and by the time I got there, the train was already rolling even from that 0.2% yard grade!) but was able to climb aboard. Then at 2.2 miles out from the destination ... after crawling along at 10-11 mph max ... on a grade that was identical to what I was already on ... my train suddenly lost traction! Went into full wheel slip, then came to a halt, and then began rolling backwards! I was able to finally get it stopped - probably a lot of luck. Again - back to Google. Found another setting I didn't know about, and again, ran all the way back to the rear engines to flip one switch. And then started forward yet again ... about 1/4 of the way there, I noted that the train was rolling. Let's just say that on a 1.6% grade ... I failed to grab the train as it RUSHED by me. I watched it longingly for a few moments as is disappeared down the track before finally just exiting the scenario.

I couldn’t get past the last 14miles I kept getting slippage on the wheels no matter what I tried I would roll right back down the mountain. Especially when it started 1.5% incline. Yeah you definitely saved me a whole lot of frustration because I was ready to throw out my system with game included!! Lol 😂

Thx for video i watched it 2nd times. 1st cos i played this mission on PS4 and 2nd time on PS5. I have one more tip. When you couple the cars then you can request for geen light, that means you will be first on that long road. You will never need stop the train.

If you want your brake pipe to charge faster, leave Reverser in Neutral and feed in 1 notch of throttle. Gets that Air compressor working a bit faster. Edit: Another Tip - That distant Red signal at 56:00 in the video. You know there's a train in front of you. That heavy of a train you're operating at 1.8 miles out doing over 35mph, drop the throttle to 0 and get your speed down to about 5-10 mph. Just need a small set on the Automatic. This will keep you from needing to start from a dead stop. Don't accelerate back to track speed if the Red changes to Yellow until you have passed the signal so you get the next distant signal. When you're that heavy and climbing a steep grade, stopping is the last thing you want to do. Just let it crawl.

I am half way through following your guide and I thought I'd leave a comment. Thank you for your guidance. I didn't know about the BP before watching this and was constantly getting wheel slips, at the junction just before 1:21:30 I was able to replicate your actions using the sand. I also wasn't to sure on the differences between the independent and automatic however after watching this I have a good understanding of the two. Attempting this journey alone before I was doing okay reaching 30mph but as soon as I hit the mountains the speedo was saying 300mph going backwards, that was because I hadn't set the tandems up correctly. @@iLukey96 Yeah, because the radio in second tandem is needed to operate it remotely from first tandem. I think I explained that in 15th or 16th minute of the video. Also, my bad the guide might be about 20 minutes long :P As for me using the sand... Later on you'll find out that the game is not simulating things right or things are set differently for this scenario and sand is basically not needed at all ;)

I struggled moving my train with the recommended settings the game was giving. Such a waste of time! Then I found your channel. Thanks! I'm not sure how far this helps others, but I got all the signals go Yellow/Green when I did not hold 'Shift' key to run, just walk up to the front end of the train, that will cover and give enough time for the 1st train to pass.

If you do the set up quickly, and drive around 19 km/h at the first part you get to the switch quicker than the other train so you dont have to stop at all :)

I don't know why Devs never explained that in the tutorials, but that's one of the biggest complaints I got against this product. While I love many things about this game, tutorials are definitely one of the weakest points. They're too basic and Players never receive knowledge they need from those. Hopefully at some point they will improve on that field.

Need to read forum and watch videos like this one to know how to do it, great for content creators and nicely done in the video. But why not explained in game? .... oh i know, the fully fueled scenario tends to bug in the last 800yards and last signal stays perma red. They dont want anyone to get there.

I’m pretty new to this game and that I’m doing this my biggest complaint is that the game doesn’t fully prepare you for things like this. Don’t give me wrong I think this is an excellent game but you’re not given all the information that you need to be more successful. I’d much rather be told what I need to know and fail then not being told at all. Thank God you made a very detailed video that explains it all so that going forward if I have to run a scenario with multiple cars and multiple loco motives at least now I will know how to do it. According to the scenario, normally the rear engines would normally be run separately, so imagine going up the grade with this train with only the 2 fronts sd40-2s

Assuming you got all your engines going already set your front driving cab to lead or dead if you don’t do that a bit of break pressure remains slowing you down on steep hill.

Make sure to stop your train exactly at the marker. Dovetail made it quite difficult at times as those are placed very close to the signals. Use waypoint distance guide and stop when it's as close to 0 as possible or turn on objective markers in options to see them on the tracks.

i found helpful in the downhill sections was to use dynamic brake to help control the speed too when on the way to the stop at location marker where the drive motor is converted to a generator driven by the energy of the trains thus excersisng a retarding force

I know this is an older video, and I didn't want to read all of the comments. You asked for an idea of remuneration for experienced engineers. I knew someone in the 80's whose uncle was one. Fast forward to today. We are looking at $200.00 an hour. You must also understand that taking a 3000 mile job you are paid 24 hours a day till finished. Which includes overtime and double overtime. A very good package to be sure.

thanks for the tips. I have got stuck at those lights many times and still have not finished this quest. I keep quitting over frustration. I think it may help if I wait at those first lights with that train leading. Wait there for like 30-40 minutes after the light changes, so I get yellow or green lights the whole route.

update those settings were wrong in my game. Couldn't even get the lead locomotive to start the run. So I quit again just didn't want the walk back and forth to return settings... Maybe I will try tomorrow with that rear locomotive pushing at throttle 3 through the whole run

@@magnacarta7136 I think the developers changed sth. I only could move it by closing the cutout valve in the 3 train so the 2nd lead train. Try this. Btw you don't have to walk. Just use the camera with the numbers 3. You can move with the arrows and use everything. Then come back with 1 to your lead engine

I don't like how the game assumes you either played TSW1/2020 or work as an Engineer. Because the tutorials barely touch on how to move around and that's it. No DPU setups, not even how the signal lights work. Thanks to your vid I realized I could simply travel at 18mph the whole time and look at the map to see the other train and when it would pass the required signal so mine would turn Yellow. I didn't had to break a single time and only arrived 3 minutes after you did.

I tryied to do the timetable service Q249 with ac440 coupled with sd40-2 (with no helpers loocos pair on the end), I set the weather to snowy and wet, and there is no chance to pass the summit. Train always stops at the beginning of the grade after passing Hyndman checkpoint. Do you have any advise how to pass the summit with only two locos pair?

In the beginning, ignore the trailing engine, and get in the lead and get hooked up as quick as possible. Then get it setup as shown here. Haul ass up to the front of the stack, again ignoring the trailing engine, and get in the seat and start trying to go. If you do this quick enough, you can beat the other train and save 15m from the first signal, and about 15m from subsequent signals, since you will be the lead train. Then get the rest of the front engine setup with radio and such and enjoy a much smoother route.

I spent two days of my life trying to figure out why the train couldn't move at the beginning of the mission. It turns out that the in-game instructions are incorrect!!! (time code 10:20). As a result, due to the wrong setting of the locomotives, I could not overcome the first ascent.

Wait a minute. Why does your scenario says to uncouple 52 vehicles but mine said 37? Dovetail might have patched this later

If I’m correct, some scenarios for PC will be different than on a consoles.

I didn't do any of that stuff at the start with radio or the other loco at front other than the one it tells you to go to and it still moved just fine, although a mile down the track I did get a SPAD even though I didn't see any light. :) I also didn't need to wait for the brake thing. I just did/do what it tells me and all was well. :) ... PS having just completed this scenario, I now understand the reasoning because the latter part of the game is really hard to get speed up as you explain, although towards the end it did pick up again for some reason but I'm going to re-watch to see what you did. How could I doubt you?! lol

Maybe Dovetail fixed some things. When I tried this scenario with the settings that were proposed by the game I could barely go up on that hill.

@@NickJay I admire your patience then.... Settings proposed by DT allows you to drive at 10 - 15 MPH while the settings I shown will allow you to drive at 20 -- 25...

I did the setup as you did, but somehow I must always have the throttle one or two higher than yours and it's slightly slower on acceleration. So I have the throttle on 8 while producing over 600 amps and I can't get my train above 40mph!

Interesting, I had so much struggle with this route and this scenario in particular I just abandoned the whole sand patch grade route. I really love the rest of the game and have played many routes but sand patch or in general the US freight routes are just beyond me, it always feels like my train is overloaded and I just cant climb up the gradients at all and get stuck.

at 21:32 it started showing yellow signal below the inclination symbol and showing red in the power symbol 3 and after slowing it completely stopped and not moving at all did every step same as yours also PCS open is showing red automatically now any idea what went wrong? solved it had to switch off the "warning alert in fuse box" thanks for the guide

You have to stop your locomotive exactly on the point that game wants you to. If you miss it and stop too soon or too far the trigger won't work and the signal will never change.

Hm it seems after when I saved and exited the game and logged back in the rear engines don't respond anymore all I hear is them starting up and idling and not revved up to notch 8 :/ and I can't tell if my rear engine behind the lead engine is even responding any clues on how to fix them?

Thank you very much for providing clear instructions on what to do in this scenario where the tutorial is insufficient and incorrect. I have only one question, which is general: if, by mistake, I put the automatic brake on "emergency", no matter what I do later, the train keeps braking even after I use the lever to "release" everything.
