I was lucky to ride behind GG1s a number of times as a boy with my parents, from NY Penn to Union Station (DC). during summer vacations. The things I remember most are that you couldn't tell that you were moving as the GG1 left a station and picked up speed - it was so smooth - until you looked out the window. And the amazing speeds on the NEC, faster than any automobile I had ridden in. And then when we reached DC and changed to the Southern Railroad train pulled by their diesel engine, which rarely hit more than 60mph, it was such a downer. Great memories!

I saw the Congressional pass my grandmother's house many times growing up through the 50s. It had a tuscan red GG1 with the five yellow stripes and silver cars with a red stripe over the windows. Ruling speed was 75 mph. No grade crossings north of Wilmington. One rarely heard that wonderful air horn. And yes, it usually ran on the inside track, but not always. The stations were old and not very clean.

This is nice but there’s this model of the GG1 I believe it’s HO they placed a camera in its window and with layout so realistic it’s so much better than this

Either you have a wrong engine or wrong cars. The silver scheme of GG1 was introduced (1955) after the Congressional (and the Senator) got lightweight Budd 85' cars (1952).

Freya Larsen lol tell that to the scenario maker. I just play the scenarios.

The GG1 sure didn't have much forward vision with that small window and long nose.

It was a design from the end of the steam era.

Not quite at the end of steam. They were built in 1934 and ran since the 30s. During the 30s, steam wasn't seeing it's demise yet.

Did a GG1 have a seat for the engineer or did the engineer have to stand up the whole way?

They keep whistling for grade crossings. Even in my time there were none north of Wilmington. Approaching a station with people on the platform they might whistle once. In my experience the GG1s powering the Congressional were red. I never saw one with the silver paint scheme.

Is the exspansion pack for the GG1 the Northeast Corridor (philly to ny route) or is that separate add on by itself?

and 4859 will be painted into an acela paint scheme. and it will be running again on march of 2018. and it will have the same wheels, new pantograph as the acs-64s. and new top speed up to 200mph and at 190mph it overheats. and it can travel up to 185mph in princton junction in new jersey, and it will doublehead with acela metroliner #889 and #890 every field day, in Turn of river middle school, and they will run from clifton forge, vA To boston for the first time 2020, and when they triple head, #889 & #890 will be pushing 4859 at 200mph in princton junction in new jersey! and so 4859 will run again and it will be brand new like the acs-64s, in march of 2018
