According to the law in the states it is required for all steam engines to have a chime steam whistle and a bell, which is why Dominon of Canada has the bell and chime whistle

Did you get the chance to see all the A4s at the NRM Great Gathering in 2013? I went to that and it was brilliant! I also recommend Railfest, which is also at NRM I think, if you get the chance go to that as well, as you might see me!

If you're moving just the locomotive you don't need that much cut-off. 25% is sufficient enough to get just the locomotive moving. Full reverser forward if your pulling a full train and reduce cut-off gradually as your speed increases. Adjust your throttle and reverser accordingly to maintain speed. Going full throttle will make your boiler pressure go down significantly because the steam usage rate exceeds the generation rate. Steam engines, inefficient overall, have more power than you give 'em credit for. Use your keyboard to fine tune your throttle and brakes.
