Train Store Walk Through Part 11 - PAT’S TRAINS Wheeling WV

Hi train friends! On my 5 train store trip Jan 3rd I visited this train store Pats trains in wheeling West Virginia! It was my first ever trip ever trip in store. I was pretty excited to see this store in person. I’ve ordered from them online many times. They have a great website that is kept up to date and they’re prices are very competitive with other well known stores.
My honest remarks about the store:
It was really crowded inside and hard to walk around and hard to shop and see the trains or find Something. I think the store needs an overhaul with better shelving and the large useless layout has to go it’s taking up room where there could be allot more shelves to keep things organized.
I travelled to 5 train stores on this trip today, and will upload a video each day this week of all the train shops I visited!

Pat's need a bigger building or like you said have clearance sale ! I find store like that a bit overwhelming and it's really hard to focus. It's a bit overwhelming and claustrophobic for me also. I bet he has some hidden gems in those piles ! Just have to roll up your sleeves and do some digging lol !

Love Pat's, been going there for decades. And yes, he has acquired a ton of stuff but if you just looking you'll be there for a while, if you know what your looking for he's very helpful and friendly and will get you what you need. Loved seeing your walk through of the shops here in the good ol Ohio Valley, thank you.

Pats is our Favorite Shop in The Valley especially when it comes to purchasing a Brand New Engine. One Great thing about Pat's is all the Special Runs he does. I can call ahead and he will set an item back for me until I can drive up to get it. He has 2 Large Buildings behind the Store full of Inventory too. He has so much more than any Train Store around and alot of Discontinued Items as he orders in Quantity. Alot of Shops only order 1 or 2 of each item and they quickly sell out. This is the Best Place to Contact if your looking for something in particular. He just might have it. We go there all the time and Pat is very helpful in helping you find what you are looking for. I can appreciate your point Jebb but you can’t even walk in the place and feel comfortable. If your customers aren’t happy they’re not going to stay as long and that’s what happened to me. I felt way too Claustrophobic and decided to leave. Maybe you guys should suggest to him to dump the layout for more shelves and make a new test track area with a single straight piece of track for each scale…that’d be good enough. It is cool he has allot and does the custom runs and he seems like a nice guy from the 10 mins I spoke to him. Just hard to compare that to t&k across the River that’s very well organized

Wow! Purchased a lot of stuff from Pat over the years. Mostly his special Wheeling & Lake Erie products. His store reminds of the old Glenn’s Train Shop in Akron, OH.

Yeah he has allot of stuff. I honestly didn’t even want to start digging through stuff I chose to leave and head to the next place! You might be better off just ordering it online by the time you for gas in the car you’ll probably save money.

Wow! I've bought things off his website several times. It's about a 4 hour drive for me, so I've never been to the store. This would explain how he has products on his website that have been sold out for months everywhere else. If you burry your inventory, people won't know you have it! 😂

Bittersweet! I have been to that store several times. Since it's so close to T&K I go to both when I am back in the area. The lack of organization is definitely a concern and has limited the time I spend there. However, I have found some great stuff in the mix.

Wow as a store owner I would be embarrassed to have a shop that cluttered. There is lots of great inventory there but if you can't get to it or see it you just won't sell it. That's a shame to see a shop in that condition. I am amazed his insurance company doesn't say anything about public safety. Thank for sharing Nick.

Shaking my head Harry! I’ve always kinda dreamed of owning my own train store, although it would be allot of work as I’m sure you can attest. If this were my place I’d do exactly what I said in the video make a small test track if he’s worried about having a place to test trains and dump the layout for more shelves. That layout looks like it hasn’t been run in several years anyways.

I was just back up there today Harry. Second time this week. Bought some stuff you'll never find anywhere else. Bought 2 MTH Junk Load Inserts and 3 Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Gondolas. Bet no one else in the Country had these items in their Stockpile all together. And everyone brags about Trainworld and Legacy Station. Pat beats their Prices Big Time. I'll keep going there as long as he is in business. Pat's always treated me very well. Plus he does alot of Local Lines and items in Custom Runs with Lionel and MTH and other Companies.

Having Brady’s 10 minutes away is convenient. I’m already missing scenic express since they moved . They were literally only 5 minutes away from home . 🤷🏻‍♂️

I know Dan I went to scenic express pretty often and I would chat with Jim the owner when he was there. Brady’s is a great store in going to go back for a second walk thru’s video there soon I hope. I still haven’t been the len’s trains either.

Now I know why Pat couldn't find my 2nd MTH Premier Dash 8. 😆 I stopped their about 5 years ago to pick up an engine and the store didn't look quite like that but Pat has always carried a large inventory, I've ordered a lot thru Pat, mostly MTH scale wheel locos, and he's a great guy to deal with.

lol yeah I was thinking the same thing chuck! Some other viewers mention he has 2 storage buildings out back full of trains also! It would be really beneficial if he took my advice that I said later in the video and I think. It would be a great experience as opposed to feeling cramped up
