Welcome to our first-time watching Train To Busan (2016). This film is packed with intense suspense, unexpected emotional storytelling, and relentless zombie horror. This combination is what makes this incredible film directed by Yeon Sang-ho such a unique masterpiece. The way he blends all of these themes and tones together is pretty much flawless. It's no wonder as to why this became an internationally acclaimed South Korean horror sensation.
"Train to Busan" follows a group of passengers fighting for their lives as a mysterious virus turns fellow commuters into flesh-hungry zombies during a high-speed train journey. The film has a really entertaining take on the zombie genre and it even includes some really profound social commentary.
We hope you enjoy our reactions, commentary and discussions as we immerse ourselves in the storytelling that this fantastic film has to offer. We'll delve into the elements that make this film standout to us. From the nail-biting tension to the more emotional sequences.

I absolutely LOVE this movie! The pacing, the action, the drama and the paranoia were top tier. Also, if you want a bit of a deeper dive into this movie, I highly recommend watching Dead Meat's Kill Count for this movie. They go deep on behind the scenes, how certain shots were done and how the story comes into being.

The bad executive represents what the dad was on his way to become in the first half of the movie; no care for others and only thinking for himself and his own family. The muscular new dad represents what the dad could become; compassion for others and sacrificing himself when the situation calls for it and he did by the end of the movie. It's a redemption story.

I love how it came full circle and the dad actually got bit saving the pregnant woman, not his daughter. Because the husband made him promise to look after her and she had spent the whole movie taking care of his daughter. And he knew he owed her and she would take his daughter to Busan. So good. It annoys me that there has to be an American remake. This film has universal themes, it is unnecessary.

I'm Korean and don't speak English, so I used a translator. I was able to understand your conversation to some extent using the automatic translation function. It's interesting and fun for foreigners to enjoy watching Korean movies. 12:44 It's interesting that you see a pregnant woman and think it's scary foreshadowing. Other foreign KZbinrs made similar predictions. Most Koreans are not familiar with zombie movies. So, I expect that few people will think of fearful foreshadowing when they see a pregnant woman. For reference, this movie is the most successful Korean movie featuring zombies. In the final scene of the movie, a child sings a song to overcome his fear in a dark place, a cliché often seen in Korean movies. 22:58 And the actor who wears a blue t-shirt and punches zombies is a famous actor and film producer in Korea. I am Korean-American. His American name is 'Don Lee' and his Korean name is Ma Dong-seok. He is also my favorite actor. He played the role of Gilgamesh in the movie ‘Eternals.’ I recommend the Korean movie he made. The title is [THE OUTLAWS]. I used a translator. Please understand even if the sentences are strange.

Your translated English is better than a lot of native English speakers who leave comments on youtube. 😅 Thanks for your insights! I always wonder what cultural context I'm missing when I watch international films. When I first saw Train to Busan, I knew that Ma Dong-seok must be a big star. He has an easy charisma that seemed familiar, even though I hadn't seen him in anything else. It's too bad that Eternals wasn't a good movie. I do hope he makes more appearances in English-language films.

The thing is this movie is not really about zombies, these monsters are just the medium to tell a story about the human condition. About how some of us shrink in the face of fear and some others rise to the occasion with bravery and sacrifice, because that’s what it is, a movie about sacrifice. I always cry during this film, even during reactions. Also, why were they competent? Men are mandated to go to the military before their 30th birthday? Or 28th? So most of the men older than 30 have already done their mandatory time in the military (18 months).

There is so much going on and even my dad, who hates anything zombie, loved this one. 7:39 "You always start off with denial." THANK YOU! Most people think they would respond appropriately and immediately, but in actuality, most people who aren't used to constantly being on guard against danger react like the reporter who was doing a live report, and when gunshots started ringing out, the reporter stood there for several seconds confused and looking around and asking "Are those fireworks?" Humans have a "normality bias" that requires a mind shift before they can mentally accept that something out of the ordinary is happening plus they're afraid to admit that something terrifying that "only happens to OTHER PEOPLE" is happening to them, so as you said, denial.

Normally in zombie stories everyone turns into either a complete asshole or people who don't last long because they're screwed over by assholes (cough-walkingdead-cough). But I really appreciate so many of the characters in this film. From the badass dad-to-be, to the homeless man, even the one old lady who basically says, "fuck this" and opens the door on the crowd the business man had been giving orders to. Speaking of, I do wish the film had revealed the business man's motivation a teensy bit earlier, because I feel it added sympathy to him a little too late, even though I like the imagery of him half-zombified and begging to please go home to his mother. Just a good, good movie, and a reminder of why I was into zombie stories so many years ago.

The guy who plays the "badass", Ma Dong-seok, has made an admirable career out of playing tough guys, excelling as maverick cops and alpha male gangsters, in the likes of The Outlaws, The Gangster the Cop & the Devil and, perhaps most famously, The Roundup series. Internationally, outside of this he's probably best known for playing Gilgamesh in the MCU's Eternals movie. Most recently he once again played the everyman badass in ' Badland Hunters, Netflix' sequel to the acclaimed hit Concrete Utopia.

These are monsters with the faces of your loved ones. You SHOULD be hesitating to kill them. You should feel bad for them! Train to Busan really brought the heart back to zombie movies. I love this movie so much. The more I watch it I realize the core theme is selfishness and selflessness and how those traits manifeat in people when the people around them are either selfless or selfish. And also the subverted expectations, like the "crazy" homeless guy they didn't want on ther train ended up nobly sacrificing himself for others, whereas the socially acceptable businessman turned out to be the biggest pos there.

Guys, please watch Rec. The original is in Spanish, there is an american adaptation called Quarantine, but it's terrible. The original is such a pleasure to watch.

Speaking of horror, if you haven't watched it, pls do watch The Ring (the original japanese film). Oh, and you cannot miss Constantine (the Keanu Reeves film). While the DC fan might look at it askance, it is truly wonderfully done.

I don't think I ever got emotional over a zombie movie. 😂 Check out American Made. Tom Cruise was great in it and it was a crazy true story.

I love love love this movie! The way I was left a mess after this movie. My sister had to check on me at the end because I was about to flip out if we lost our Momma Bear 😭 i was like I SWEAR TO GOD IF YOU HURT HER 😂 i knew i was gonna enjoy it but I didnt think I was gonna be a mess at the end. It reminds me a lot of World War Z which is one of my favorite infected movies. But with a bit more heart. The characters are just so lovable! I ve always loved Korean and Japanese Horror but this definitely reignited my interest in it as well as The TV show All of us are dead which is phenomenal!

There were two sets of monsters in that train, the Zombies, who's nature it is to be a monster, and the selfish humans, who, in their desire for self-preservation lost what it meant to be a human, thus creating a more despicable set of monsters. I recommend the Oscar award winning Korean movie "Parasite." If you guys have not seen it yet.

One of the best zombie movies ever made, no doubt. And to be coming 50+ years after night of the living dead that’s saying something, it’s great people can still make effective, smart movies in what is in a lot of ways a tired overdone genre

This is my favorite Zombie movie and that's saying a lot. I also love the Korean net-flicks series "Kingdom" which is set back in feudal Korea during the Joseon Dynasty they have a really interesting mystery horror type story with a very cool Zombie lore and your having to fight them with swords or weapons of the time. It's also a chess moving royal political drama on top of that it seriously reminds me a bit of the early seasons of Game of Thrones in that aspect. Plus the scenery and cinematography is gorgeous, just watch the trailer cuz it's a really good show.
