serious question. i used to take TKD for around 10 years and i never understood the whole "7 deg black belt" kata. what would stop anyone from learning this? why do you have to be "7 deg". the whole idea of reserving katas for a special degree of black belt completely baffles me. most mid lvl practitioners could handle this with no problem if they have been consistent with their training.

serious answer . the true TKD has 24 patterns , this patterns are assigned from white belt to 6 degree black belts .last ones is to achieve the rank of master 7 degree. Masters don't have patterns unless you are from a macdojo or belong to any of the different streams so call also TKD. I believed they are doing patterns that belong to that stream.

From 6th degree on up, a portion of the form is of the performer's own creation. I believe the beginning and ending are standard, but a certain number of moves in the middle have to be chosen and put together by the student. This is consistent with the idea that 6th degrees and above are required to be contributing to and further developing the sport. I'm only speaking about within the ATA, which this master is part of.
