Start training early. Do not trim strays on your mo while it's short. They will just grow back and bother u even more. Resist the urge and in 2wks it wont bother you anymore. For me the longer the stache the better. I kept trimming mine and it never worked. Soon as I stopped, viola! It worked

Great video. To answer your question, I agree with you. A big full beard needs a mustache. I let mine grow as big as possible. Sometimes I wear it brushed into my beard, but often I handlebar the ends just slightly and then wax it up so it will not go all over the place. It completely covers my mouth, but I found its just a matter of getting used to eating with it. When waxed it hold together and I can get food in with no problem. I like the look and its nice and thick. I won't ever shave it.

i've kept a stache since graduating high school, I'll be 58 this month, mostly keeping it trimmed close. Just in the past few weeks since Ii started using Bossman's Mudstache wax, I've decided to let it grow, I can now keep the stache out of my mouth. Can't wait until I can get it to a length that I can give it a proper curl. The guys at work are definitely envious, but hey I'm from Hicksville, it's only expected. I enjoy watching your videos and pick up a lot of info from the Trusted Teacher, with tips and tricks for the beard and stache. That dropbeat was a definite plus during your tutorial, Veteran was a good choice. I have a boars hair brush, but really like the Beard Octane one better. Oh how I envy people who can comb or brush their hair in a certain direction and it cooperates. My hairs will immediately pop back to their desired position. Whether it's hair on my head or hair on my big toe, my hairs will always go whichever direction they want to go and I don't believe even super glue would be a strong enough hold to change that! 😂

Larger mustache, rarely trim, prefer to groom it away from lip v.s. trimming. I have been definitely getting into a better routine since watching your videos, using more oil, no balm, oil & butter in evening, blow drying. I want to rock the beard but I’d like to spend minimal effort on maintenance. I live in south LA and work outdoors quite a bit, and even if I’ve completely groomed & styled, it seems 5 minutes in the environment, it goes back to a semi frizz. I have noticed the oil helps, will be purchasing a reputable butter after watching the Beard Guyz review. It has been since filed away in the circular file along with their balm I had also purchased. Thanks very much. I have a pretty big mustache and recently worn it longer down toward my chin. I don’t have a beard. My problem is this. One side of my face my mustache and sideburns grow perfectly and straight down so no trouble whatsoever. I have very wavy hair. My other side grows completely different and I’m frustrated by it. About 1/2-3/4” inches of the bad side the hair grows sideways but hard to explain. The hairs start messing up too high up to cut that part off. If I did cut that part off my mustache would not look very good on me. The much shorter length would look bad on my face. My friends all love it and I have enjoyed the extra length this year. I recently cut off about 1/2-3/4” inches of it since I have grown it out but that hasn’t changed my problems I’m having with it. It is like the part of the mustache is from a different person lower down and it is so much of my mustache I can`t do anything with it. I`ve tried some beard wax. Nothing helps. That part of it grows completely different than any facial hair that I have had. I have had this mustache for probably 40 years plus. Do you have any suggestions what to do with my out of control part of my mustache?

I love your videos Dan, and you give very good advice, but this works for a "young" handlebar mustache, then a time passes that yes or if you are going to use wax, if you want to at least eat, drink and have sex with your woman, it's essential... After that... sometimes it can exceed a year, you won't need wax or anything... it will hold up well just with oil and a dryer. A piece of advice guys, use seawater, which is worth two dollars and prior to wax (or depending on how, without wax) it holds up very well and gives the mustache a very cool volume.

I have the beard octane brush as well and I love the rounded ends for the same exact reason. I am actually looking into getting the wax from live bearded next time I order from them, but i have been going without for now. Thanks for the video man. Have a great weekend.

I keep mine trimmed even with my top lip and long past the ends of my mouth I have to use a little wax because I have some curly hair but it falls in perfectly with my long beard

Great stuff Dan! I just use a number 2 carbon fiber and as I comb it to the sides, hit it with the hair dryer, and then cold shot. I have also found having more length also makes it easier to keep it controlled. I have a good size mustache. I feel like a beard without an equal size mustache feels very unbalanced. Yeah it's a pain sometimes, but it is so worth it.

Another awesome video DanC. I haven’t ever used wax for my mustache. I have used a beard balm with a strong hold and used that to style my mustache. It seems to work and I haven’t had any specific issues that I can think of. But my mustache game is not strong like some others like yourself. 👊🏼👍🏼🔥

So I know there's newer videos now but none of them focus on the mustache and that is what I really need right now so does this advice still hold as the best for training a mustache or are there now better ways? As always these videos are so informative and I'm learning new things with each one.

This was an important video for me. We have very similar beards, one of the first reasons I subbed to your channel. I have followed your advice on getting my beard where I want it and I have been successful, thanks to your advice. My mustache has always been the issue for me. It would be wirey at the ends and hard to control. It just didn't look right as a handlebar or a schnauzer. I have managed to grow it long enough at the ends now where it blends with the beard. Not optimal, but acceptable. I think you have more FPF (follicles per face) and that allows you central of maintenance now, due to the fullness. I also notice that you seem to only groom the top layers. Similar to your beard, you dont dig the brush in. This is probably another factor why yours comes out so well. I am finding it hard to get the courage to cut it shorter and try your process, but success will come with trial and error. Sorry for the long post, but as I said earlier, this was important to me. Thank you for making this video, it is really appreciated. ✌

I have a basic stache -- my beard didn't look right without one. I've used Clubman Pinaud beard balm in place of a mustache wax. Terrible for beards IMO, but it has perfect hold for the upper lip! I got it for about $3 at my CVS.

That's pretty much what I fell into as a matter of course. Beardbrand has a travel boar bristle brush that is very maneuverable and perfect for me, I like a handle to give me the illusion of control. I do have a preponderance of gray hairs in both beard and stash. Man, it is like babysitting two year olds or herding cats. As a result, sometimes wax is the only way to tame the errant gray hairs. Thanks for the video, now I feel like I'm on the right track.

Great video as always. Dan I was hoping that you would do a mustache video. For me the mustache is the biggest time consumer that I have in my beard process in the morning. I did try out your whole mustache routine this morning and it definitely helped. I found all the tips very helpful. The only part that did not help quite as much as I expected it to was the brush part where you brush up and out. Don't get me wrong it did help but not like how it does for you. To be honest it might be because I am using a synthetic bristle beard brush and not a boars(I don't like boars hair products). And also probably because I am not used to using this technique. I am sure it will work better for me over time. The two most effective tips for me were - 1) blow drying the mustache straight down before combing to the side. I was amazed how well this worked. My beard and mustache are fairly curly. My mustache wants to curl in toward my mouth on both sides . Particularly the left side. Normally I would try to blow dry my mustache in the exact direction that I want it to lay. Which for me is to the left/right and down(providing extra thickness to my connector areas). I would do this and a lot of the time my mustache would still want to curl in. It would take a lot of work and effort to make it lay where i want. Drying it straight down made it dry pretty straight. I was amazed. 2)Pinching the hair between my thumb and finger and running it the length of the mustache also worked wonders. I was really surprised how well that also helped to put the mustache where I wanted it to lay. I never thought to do that. I always tried to make it lay in place with just my Kent comb. Sometimes the more I had to comb it the crazier it would lay. Sorry if this post is long winded but I just wanted to say THANK YOU Dan! I really appreciate you and all you do for the bearded community.
