So they use smaller pitches, and in the final they had a 25 minute break at half time to facilitate Shakira performing. This is just another example of the "selling its soul" that's plaguing football to go with the various Cup finals being played in foreign countries. The commercial side of football has long been a big thing, but only recently has it started to affect the actual game of football on the pitch.
@JonatasAdoMАй бұрын
I agree with football becoming marketing and forbiddingly expensive. However, foreign? Football is the biggest sport in the world. It does not have a house (which would probably suck at it). All nations football plays at are foreign. Unless you meant that football was foreign to the US. The issue at the end of the day and this reply is: Conmebol. It always can be traced back to them. By the way, aren't half time intervals already around 13 minutes or more? PS: The invasions delayed the match for 1 hour and 22 minutes if I not mistaken. Far more than the half time break.

What I meant by "foreign", was the Spanish Super Cup, for example, has been played in Saudi Arabia in 4 of the last 5 seasons. And current La Liga president Javier Tebas is openly exploring his desire to have official league matches played in the US. This doesn't feel right for me, knowing that die hard fans who travel home and away won't necessarily have the opportunity/ability/desire to travel to a foreign country that far away to watch their local club. Manchester City recently got a £2.09M fine from the Premier League for 22 breaches regarding delays to kick-offs, most of which were for taking longer than the 15 minutes permitted for the half time break. Due to the "old" nature of the game, that used to be played in many different kind of spaces, according to what was available, even the size of international matches pitches have very ample tolerances. the width must be between 64 and 75 meters, and the length between 100 and 110 meters, so those pitches are regular, even if at the limit.

Even NFL players have started complaining about how close the new luxury seats are getting to their benches in the newer NFL stadiums. IMO, it would’ve made more sense to invest in the college stadiums that seat 80+k and even well into 100k and modernize their amenities. Doesn’t matter because fifa recognizes size “range” for a pitch. Technically a field can be basically square as long as the touchlines are “longer”, perhaps even by a centimeter, than the bylines. So field size and shape is fluid. (There is a min/ max for the side/end lines. But the range allows a near square pitch.)

The origin of the names is that actually football began as a mess of games between universities that all were inventing different rules. Eventually there came out multiple games. The three biggest: One would go on to be renamed Rugby Union Football. One would be called Association Football, which at the time to differentiate it from the other versions, the British nicknamed "soccer" for short. (An Oxford University shortening of the word Association at that time was assoccer. They eventually shortened the name further to soccer.) The third would become known as American football. But they all started off as just "football" at the beginning. It's where Gaelic football, Aussie Rules football etc all come from as well. There's technically not a "real" football, they were all invented together, around the same time, from the same origins. American football was made from a combination of association football and rugby football making it to US colleges, but was mostly modified from rugby. And American football has probably changed the most from how it was played initially. We keep tinkering with the game a lot vs other football games. If you go back to early NFL times and look at it, it looks a lot closer to rugby than it does now.

USSF don’t care how terrible the pitches were.

You mean to tell me the divas who roll on the pitch whenever someone sneezes too close to them are complaining about the game being physical....? I'm shocked 🤦♂️🤣

But think of all the extra $$$ the executives and organizers make by hosting it in the United States. 🤑🤑🤑 Won't somebody please think of the money!

They should make them even smaller.
@md-io4tbАй бұрын
I'd rather say the smaller pitch makes the game more technical and less athletic.
@OPBarros91Ай бұрын
Not true. Less space means a highly technical player has less space to find a through ball, a highly technical player has less space to drible, a highly technical team has less space to move around and defeat the opposition defense. A smaller pitch makes it easier for less technical players to defend. The game relies more on strength and physicality other than technique and creativity.
@md-io4tbАй бұрын
@@OPBarros91 More space = the faster you are, the more you can use it. If you're technically less skilled, in a larger pitch, you have more chances to stay in control of the ball. While in a smaller pitch, the opponent is more likely to be next to you, thus you're more likely to use the ball.
@OPBarros91Ай бұрын
@@md-io4tb bro if you have less space and the defender is closer to you it’s more difficult for skilled players to use their skills. That’s just how the dynamic of the game is. Less space means physicality will matter more than skill because there’s less space to pass, drible, move…
@OPBarros91Ай бұрын
There’s a reason why defense always try to keep the defenders line and the midfielders line closer, so the opponent has less space to work with, thus making it “easier” to defend the ball
@OPBarros91Ай бұрын
@@md-io4tb smaller pitch means the defense has less space to cover, player will be closer to one another, both defense and offense, less space for creativity
