I LOVE your tip: "don't name it till you love it!" I say this to my students all the time! Great video!

Straight up adorable when your dog puts their ears back anticipating the harness being put on. I love perky eared dogs! So expressive!

Thank you so much for this! I was trying to do it in his normal vest using "pull" which would now be mixed with "pull it" which is a task of opening things like doors and draws so "forward" is a MUCH better cue. A team I follow uses "let's go" and also tells him "slower" and "faster" and "stop" so all of that can be added I suppose. But I was trying to do it with a treat in front of his face and trying to encourage him to pull against me so this is a far better way. Thank you so much!

Thank you so much! I was looking for a video to training my service dog to begin forward momentum training and this was super easy to follow!

Thank you so much for this video! It's been so much more helpful than about a dozen others I've watched. I'm just starting my search for a mobility service dog that I'll be training for my particular needs, and I'm researching & learning as much as I can before I get my pup.

I used the work “Hike” because my 1st SD was a husky and I thought it would be funny. Now I have a Border Collie x Heeler and I still use the command it’s just not as funny.

these old training videos are extremely helpful, since when I move out (I'm a minor, still living mom) I will be getting a st. bernard for mobility assistance since my mom doesn't believe me when I say I have trouble walking-

Never had success training fmp but I did this method and it's coming along!! But I first made her learn "slow", because she would run there and we had the same issue with "go find bench" where she just rushes and now this task is a little unhelpful as she yeets me to the bank lol and ffs I can't make her walk slow 😂

Do you do training? I’ve not been able to find great trainers in my area.

Thank you for this. How do you get a dog certified for going in public after doing the training?
@darla.theworkingdog5 жыл бұрын
Your service dog doesn't need to be certified to go into public it just has to be trained enough
@pattihanson79215 жыл бұрын
esa & service dog in training angel thank you
@Greyboi78985 жыл бұрын
Patti Hanson there is no legal certification. The dog just has to be task trained and under control
@canine_wanderlust4 жыл бұрын
In the us certification isn't a thing you just need a doctors note straight from YOUR doctor, other countries like canada do require registration though just do research on your local service or assistance animal laws 😊❤

Did someone steal this harness from you...ik someone that has one that looks exactly like ypurs
@vonelintraining84275 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your concern. This is a commercially available harness, not a custom. Also, I've sold this harness a while ago.
@tiffanyporter10875 жыл бұрын
Is there a specific type of harness you recommend for this type of task? Regular, counterbalance, guide?
@cookiechaina12385 жыл бұрын
Tiffany porter I think a regular mobility harness (ex. Yup) with a pull strap would be your best bet. I’ve seen teams use a guide handle too.

How long does this take to train?
@gracie66795 жыл бұрын
depends on the dog.

That's a rather frog-legged German Shepherd. Look at the conformation of the back legs - not good. I wouldn't recommend momentum pulling for this dog. It's true the strength should be coming from the shoulders, but I would not want a dog with a weak hind end doing that work.

Only an ortho vet can determine if the dog is unsuitable for mobility tasks.
