Great podcast Susan!!! I’d love to learn how to teach dogs to hold a toy in their mouth while they watch. I always smile when I see Swagger do it 😂🥰 it’s just so silly 😜

thanks for referring me to this video! i just wanted to say that you’ve completely changed my mindset on training and my relationship to my puppies. i’m being way more mindful of my temperament with them and trying to reduce the conflict in our training. i’m less angry and more optimistic about the future and i truly appreciate your content, thank you!

I am working with not two but 3 goldens. I have three platforms in my backyard and I am working many of the things that you are suggesting. I am calling each by name and giving them a Q and I am having fun seeing how they all understand when it is or is not their turn. on the other hand, there are times when I do tell one dog to sit many times I get three dogs sitting. While I do reward the dogs who stay, I don’t think I do it enough. I also have dogs who will lean over and check out the grass below their platforms or come off if I am not engaging them and I need to do a better job of reinforcing the stay. Super fun podcast, Susan. Thank you

Loved this podcast. I have 4 dogs, and the reason I have stopped training is the crazy barking I get from them when I’m trying to train 1 dog. So needed to hear this. Thanks so much Susan ❤️🐾❤️

I'm in Recallers trying to train multiple dogs. I can separate them for crate games and hot zone, but I haven't found a way to insulate them from others barking. I would love to hear suggestions because my progress is blowing up. Thanks. Love your podasts!

I both love watching your videos and you have sooo much good advice i find myself extremely overwhelmed trying to figure out what my training plan/schedule.. i have a 1 1/2 year old staffy/pit mix and 5 month mini Australian shepherd and i cant train them separately because my puppy always wants to be with my other dog, so when there in there cages together he’s fine, but if me and my other dog leave to do training 1on1 he freaks out and barks consistently and I don’t want to let him do that for that long because I don’t want him to be that stressed out then I can never spend time with my other dog and I feel like I’m always with him and I feel like she’s starting to feel neglected is really stressing me out and I just feel like I’m not capable of being able to train two dogs at the same time

Also When you get a new puppy do you train them first or do you stick to your same schedule training other dogs first and making puppy wait.?

As usual you make perfect sense but also as usual I can't seem to make that leap to understand how this works for me and my dog. River my papillon hops on and off as well, even with no distractions. What's putting me off going through crate games is the hour or so it takes to do the first part of it - I think he'll be mentally exhausted after 15 or 20 minutes because it will be incredibly hard for him. An hour is such a long time for a "busy" little dog. I probably need to push through, but it feels like too much for him. He can get very excited about other dogs running agility. Movement can be too much for him, especially if a dog looks like it's running in his direction (that last bit is the legacy of having been attacked by a dog that charged him, and almost attacked by several others that intended to hurt him and would have done so if I'd not lifted him to safety).

Hey, love your podcasts/video!! I want to learn everything. 😛 I have two female shelter pups. Genna is maybe a pit mix, about 38lbs and almost 2 yo and Roxie is about 9 months, lab/hound?, about 40lbs. I have been taking them to the dog park everyday for exercise but I keep hearing you say, don’t rehearse bad habits, or something like that. It’s quite a distance from the parking lot to the park and they both pull on leash. Once we get there, Genna is obsessed with the water hose, she is very friendly but barky with other dogs. Roxie loves to dig where the water creates mud. If Roxie is not exercised enough, she has been known to jump our back fence. Do I continue taking them to the park for exercise or find ways to exercise them in our back yard until they are better trained? Also, I want them to be well socialized with other dogs and people so I don’t want to cut them off from that interaction. Thanks for all your great training information!! ❤❤❤

My dog's all understand 'turns' and respectively don't butt in on one another's turn when it comes to fetch, bowl placing during meals, a groom and individual hugs, but anywhere else and they all magically forget what 'Katy's turn' or 'Pip's turn' or 'Boots's turn' means. This podcast very much makes sense, you given me clarity. I can see I've been trying to do too much (training) with them together(me being lazy or trying to take short cuts, which of course are not at all short with 6 dogs). I see i cannot escape the need to separate during sessions and get the one getting my time further away so they can focus on me and not how quickly their turn is going to get 'stolen' by the ones whining or barking on the other side of the xpen or door. One one hand, I have areas where my dogs desired behaviors are deeply imprinted and shaped by me since puppyhood.... and on the other i have all the things I've neglected or that have been shaped by 'laziness' and 'without clarity' that i need to change. My dog's are all great in crates but now the older one rarely if ever use them so they are likely to ask what and why now... so I need to do crate games as well! When i see all the individual training i need to do (with six dogs) I pop into my lizard brain, I'm totally overwhelmed and procrastinate. Home school for dogs is helping a lot! Though i confess i will not have completed it in 4 months... I'm only just getting to hot zones. Thank you for this great podcast!

Thanks Susan and staff. I really needed this foundation before putting my 3 year old bc in an agility class. She is triggered by all the movement and level of excitement. She has made great improvement but we both would have benefited greatly if I had prepared her for success.

I think this is the first video of yours that I've seen and I love it. I'm working on doing this with the two dogs and three cats I have. No one is good at it yet and it's all on me, I've taken a step back to work on the cats one on one and the dogs just to playing having one stay while I call the other off and then switching. But we'll get there. And yeah, I liked and subscribed. Thank you.

I have been using "OK!" as a release word since 1973 and I don't ever recall it being a problem. 🤷‍♀️ My current dog's name is Denim but I say it in different tone than if I was referring to sewing a pair of jeans. 😉Tone is one of the first things a puppy learns. I think this is the only thing I disagree with you about. 🤔

Can you recommend non verbal cues for deaf dogs in this situation? My older terrier still loves to train but I’m not sure how I cue him for his turn. I currently have him in his crate so the opening of the door is his cue…. I guess I need to first teach him another visual signal ?

I do this with my two dogs. The problem I have is when the working dog gets his release word. Like Yes! My dog in the hot zone is like, I heard the release word and pops off the hot zone. 😂 I usually just put one dog downstairs while working upstairs and swap out dogs.

But how do we train hot zone and crate games etc when we have 4 dogs and are just starting? None of them, or me for that matter, have those basics. How do I start from the very beginning with multiple dogs?
