Yes they are totally different! Not everyone would think that as they look alike and do the same moves, but Flip would work for anyone! Shilas has like 3 humans he prefers and the rest “can give it a go”. 🤣

Interesting video, especially in comparison to the one with Flip. And such a great reflection at the end. It's important to find a way that works for the human horse pair and realising that that might differ from horse to horse. And I love that you take into consideration what your horses enjoy and feel. Great inside, thank you for that!

I love the fact that you can not only read all the little signals he gave you for his opinion on the change, but also that you listened to him and didn't force him to just deal with it and ended on a bad note. Thank you for being such a great influence for the up and coming horse people to show them that there is always a positive option to train.

I think i found your youtube channel about 8 years ago soon after I got my first very own horse (and nothing was really working out the way it should) and was doing alot of research. How you interact with your horses, play with them and train them was and is a huge inspiration for me. As of late I have come back to your videos and it's making me a bit nostalgic thinking about how me and my horse first started out. Especially when you described how Shilas is your mirror and how you didn't click in the first two years you had him. I really enjoyed your insight on your relationship and how you work together. You are a really likeable, amazing person, I am proud of my younger self for picking someone like you as a big inspiration. Sorry not sorry for the long paragraph!

Wow. Eva is so wonderful with horses and the love between Shilas and Eva is incredible. You can see on Shilas' face that he has higher consciousness! I love the way Eva explained everything! It fills me with so much joy because Eva understands the mental and emotional complexities of these wonderful horses and in so doing she elevates these animals where they should be - at a very high level. I just love the psycological depth of how Shilas and Eva mirror each other's personalities. The no-hands was a good experiment because it makes you see both techniques more clearly. But I love the hands way because to me, Eva's movements are almost balletic - just like Shilas' are - so to see Eva's hands and arms moving and Shilas trotting with his tail flashing, it is all like a free and beautiful choreography to me. So hands enhance the whole affair and everything runs together in this full mutual, beautiful, tuned-in dance. Like a human and equine walse! So one need hands! Eva was describing Shilas' unhappiness with the no hands, and I could see it myself in Shilas so it helped me "read" horses better and also trust my own perceptions of the horses' feelings and thoughts. The filming was so, so beautiful. I love Eva's mother's laugh! I loved the outside ending shot of the path. And I liked going back into the barn with Shilas in the stall. Funny but after watching the Flip no hands experiment I had so many questions that I was going to ask. But Eva answered them all here in this video! My questions had been about boundaries. One time I went in my friends' coral with her pony and I started running around with the pony because I have always wanted to do that. But the pony would start to treat me like maybe I was a female horse. I felt sort of a danger as he sort of increased his play, and kept coming close to my body and being a little rougher. It opened up the whole realm of boundaries to me. Like how can I fulfill the great joy of running and playing with a horse yet keep boundaries and I guess being authoritative enough that the horse respects me. I have challenges with boundaries in general and challenges with being the authority figure. I never want to scold a horse and other people have told me that I'm too lenient with the horse and the horse isn't respecting me enough or my boundaries. It made me feel badly. Sort of hurt my feelings. But deep down I know healthy boundaries in general are a good thing and is good for a healthy relationship too, and that it's a struggle for me. My friend told me I need to be alpha with a horse but that is not my personality. Then I felt worse thinking maybe I loved the horse more than I love myself, though that's hard to say, and maybe I had a self-esteem challenge. I have sort of an awe and boundless love for horses and I think maybe I put them on a pedestal above me. I care for them so deeply. But I want to do things the right way and what's best for the horse, (and me too I guess.) I don't want to be indulgent but I want to show my love so much and want to be so gentle with the horses. Anyway, so this was a wonderful video for me because it really gave me insight and helped me address some of these challenges of my own internal being. I love Shilas so much. I have watched him for so many years. I feel like I know him and love him. Thank you for this beautiful video. Eva and her horses are such a joy in my life....

What a beautiful horse and what an amazing connection! To see how frustrated he got but still tried and tried was impressive. It shows such a deep level of trust. And it again shows that if youre treating your horse (or any kind of animal really) with kindness, understanding and respect it will always be rewarding. Its soooo common to see weird people trying to "impress" their horses with punishing them with a whip or even go that far to really deeply hurt them that im really really glad, relieved and impressed to see someone who just wants their horses to understand them. I have so much respect for you and enjoy your, jesses and matts videos enormously! Lots of love from germany!🐎🦄💕

I find it so interesting how different horse personalities can be. In the Flip video you can see how he was offering, although he didn't understand all signals without hands. He's a very attentive little guy who wants to please. Now Shilas on the other hand was more: "??? What is this? You sound like you want something but you don't tell me what??? Okay you don't know what you're doing, I'm the captain now." I think the no hands challenge is fun but so much talking to horses is done with the body, it's quite limiting. I guess that's why it's a challenge. Great video and really interesting, I especially enjoyed the commentary about your horses characters. Rede is relatable, if I was next to such a fluffy looking teddy bear I would go in for a cuddle too!

You are exactly right!!! I was not expecting this at all, the playing with Shilas always goes so fluent and I was pretty sure taking away my hands would not cause much of an issue. I was so wrong! @@AlwaysHorseLove Absolutely! I have a dominant horse too and when you spoke at the end of the video about how, for the first two years you didn't get along - I was the same with my boy. Then when you also spoke about having to be very clear teaching him what was right and wrong, I was the same with my boy too. I have had him for almost 16 years now and he is 22 so he isn't as challenging as he was when he was younger and we were still learning about each other but he can still be cheeky and strong when he feels good! He is my world! I have a younger boy and he is the opposite, very affectionate and easy going, extremely friendly and a very quick learner with little effort - he always looks to understand and please!

Thank you so much. I really appreciate you. I can see how much you love the horses and the training you believe in. It’s impressive. I think it’s important for young riders and beginners of all ages (as well as all riders ) to learn good basics on the ground to ad into training just before they mount for any ride. It can be so helpful for the relationship and the training or riding lesson or for before schooling a horse. So many instructors miss or skip teaching important fundamentals with students these days so again, thank you.

If you have the chance to work with any horses that are new or don’t have any experience with liberty training or with clients or students who are new to the training, that would be awesome too it’s a great way to see the correct and incorrect techniques from a someone new trying and even horses learning the process and trying to figure out the cues and aids. It’s a good way to train your eye to what is correct and incorrect.

Thank you for this, I have wondered in the past about his "pee pee". I had thought it was because he was trained with treats and it creates an excitement in them at the anticipation of the treat. Much like Pavlov's dogs. I am flawed he weighs 600 kilograms. I would have put his weight around the 400 kg mark, give or take 50 kg. I have had clydesdale crosses that weigh less than 600 kg! Many people fail to understand that "training" happens each day for the rest of your lives to maintain and improve techniques of both the horse and the trainer. It shows that you know your animal inside out, as you clearly predicted this outcome, should you not have all your communication "tools" at your disposal. The proof is in the pudding....it is great to see horses who are encouraged to develop their own personalities.
@AlwaysHorseLove
@AlwaysHorseLove 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your message! I understand why you would link the pee pee to treats. I would have thought the same, but only he does this whilst cuddles or brushing too... so, it like his happy-sign. 🤣 On his heaviest, packed with muscle, he weighed in at 609kg! Years ago. And yes, you are really right!

I've never had a horse like her, is involved in everything I'm doing with huge expression when I claim my space. I'm really enjoying your videos and I'm glad I was able to see you do this challenge with Flip and now this big guy 🐴💜🐎 I'm fairly new to actually watching UTube even though I have subscribed to many different animal channels but I always find knees I really like and yours is definitely one of them 😁🐎💜 🐴😍

Super leuke video❤️ Je kan heel mooi het verschil zien tussen twee paarden en wat ze nodig hebben in hun training. Ga je dit ook met Rede proberen? Lijkt me erg leuk. 😍

So cool! Shilas is a bit like my fjordhorse Moos. Moos is also a big clown and he looooooveeees to work with me, but when it’s not clear enough for him he will leave and he will try to find some grass. 😋
