Zone 4 is around 1hr power and is not explosive or sprint related. Zone 4 can get you far (nils van der poel) but you must do many things right around it and have a great aerobic base first. Lot of Zone 2 (90% time) with some Zone 4+5 on top is the way to go. There is no better, there is only best mix.

thanks for your valid points, Gerry. Completely agree that there is no substitute for a good aerobic base. Plus, thanks for your correcting me on my zone 4 generalisation. Much appreciated!

Sprinting away from the pack or taking punchy climbs is not zone 4, its more like zone 6 or 7. Settling into a breakaway or time trialing is zone 4. Just my thoughts.

No you are very right. I realised this not long after posting and aim going to do another video to address this. I appreciate the feedback. Thanks for watching.

There's so many models, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 zone models. Zone 4 is typically sweet spot/threshold and isn't really high intensity. Not trying to be offensive here but I'd say allocate a bit more time to this video so you can take a slightly deeper dive. It seems like you know what you're talking about but Z4 is not something that's explosive and you even said it's around 90% of FTP. Explosive is Anaerobic and/or Neuromuscular?

Thanks for feedback and no offence taken. I did realise after posting this that I generalised to much with the comparison and zone 4 is threshold like you said. Working on another few videos to go in to more details on zone training to make it clearer for the the viewer. Thanks again, hope you enjoyed the video to.

You seem to have no concept of what zone 2 training is based on this video and based on your Strava zone 2 rides which are measly one hour rides and not a mention about heart rate.

Thanks for your constructive feedback, really appreciate it. As the video was just an overview then I can certainly mention the valid points you made in an future one, so thanks again! 🙏
