This feels like an analogy for life and why we shouldn’t be so upset when stressful and difficult things happen to us. Those stressful things are helping us develop strengths and skills, so down the road we can conquer even bigger challenges and achieve greater goals.

It is, the key is the CORE confidence of having lived through a few NDE's. Or times in a long Hold Down, when You thought You;d "Had it," but made it out safely.

Two things I appreciate about this video. Those who are highly skilled at surfing big waves constantly try to improve; and, the honesty to say that nothing can really simulate getting slammed by one of those puppies!

I think good training would be to fill a giant drum full of water to the top, put the person in it and close the lid and push the drum down a rough hill where it rolls for 30 sec -1 min banging the person around while they hold their breath, then a person at the bottom opens the lid and lets them out.

I've surfed with a few of these guys on Big Days. I have learned to normalize the air coming in and out of my nose depending on conditions. Regulates pressure a bit inside my head. It is an instinctual thing, I am sure we all do it.

This training doesn’t look very effectual. Take the FII Waterman Survival course. It’s taught by free diving professionals. You do breath hold exercises while doing strenuous tasks. You learn real breathe hold techniques and it opens your eyes to what is possible if you remain calm and go slow.
@rksnote96354 жыл бұрын
Yeah because just before you wipeout on a wave time stands still while you do your ten inhalation breaths and then descent into the water just as those free divers do. Free diving techniques does not apply in a wipeout.
@daversj4 жыл бұрын
rks note ....If that was the sum of techniques being taught, it wouldn’t be very useful either. You can probably view the curriculum online. I took the course and found it very informative, especially the water rescue techniques. Many pro surfers take the course.

Agree, looks really dumb.
@wakeupthebear4 жыл бұрын
Exactly. First you have to paddle into a giant wave. This is the time for breathing exercises and now your just out of breath on the take off. Survival is up to the individual and how many waves hold you down after falling. Stay calm while being slammed to the bottom twice. It's part of the fun. You'll just pop back up.

Almost any training will be more effective than this hooey. The real training they get is in the water this is a joke.
@majean94664 жыл бұрын
They train and maybe 1 year later or 10 years the get in a wave how clothes got in a washing mashine and they cant do anything... You have my respect and i hope the best

Like avalanche training except they made it look dramatic for surf culture.
@joshstansberry273 жыл бұрын
lmao except that avalanche is always chasing you. Everytime. Unlike snowboarding/skiing. I love snowboarding too but it doesn't compare to the dangers of boh wave surfing in my opinion.
