Fantastic Podcast having a Superstar like Debbie who has done so much. Also facing the music where dog sport being attacked! Ivan keep uniting all these amazing leaders!! with these for great ideas going forward to help save the sport! Theses self called trainers promoting only positive training are damaging the sport! What is next a Yorkshire running the IGP field!! This is insane!! We must unite and defend this incredible sport!! Gracias!!

If a Yorkshire could run the IGP or French Ring course, why the hell not? We do need to defend dog sports but it's also a segway introduction for others to ring sports and away from the insane positive only mindset. The French Ring sport dog club in my town is all breed. It's time to put away "it's the Malinois or nothing" snob attitude. I have a $175 shelter rescued Malinois and we're training for her French Ring Brevet in 2024, five months ago Maxi was completely untrained.

Yes!! Ivan will be training for American Schutzhund! Exciting times! Excellent podcast. Very inspiring to hear you both talk about your paths and how your values align in looking out for the standard and preservation of true sport, working dogs and training. Thank you!! 🙏🥂

Debbie is so inspiring in so many ways...like hearing her talk about doing the protection training mostly by herself was very inspiring. Since helpers are hard to find and clubs being far away, I’m inspired that it can be done. I watched the video of Iron and Debbie in Finland I believe. What a powerhouse of a gsd! Breathtakingly beautiful!

I’m new to Schutzhund, but retired so I have the time. This has been an awesome podcast. So much great information. I’m excited to see what my little girl can do.

Loved listening to this conversation. I deeply appreciated Ivan bringing up the discussion of how difficult it must have been for her as a woman to break through what was considered a man’s sport. Haha, I really loved the video she made to prove her dog’s merit! That was very cool! I also deeply understood what she meant about how men of that time wanted to make women cry in their sport world…I was in the horse world during that period of time and it was true there too and, like her, I wouldn’t cry or back down but I sure saw plenty of women leave the dressage training ring in tears with certain instructors. One of them was a woman from Texas who took pride in bringing students to tears during her clinics..(very nasty thoughts about that one). I respect Debra’s can do attitude of doing training by herself if that’s what she had to do when there was a learning void. When I hear about what is happening to dog training in Europe it seems as though these decisions against aversive or using a stick etc are driven by fear as to WHAT protection dogs ARE; by degrading the tasks they diminish the dog. Though anyone with eyes for conformation can see it, it was still distressing to hear yet again how badly the German Shepherd breed is continuing it’s physical decline, it’s just so damn irresponsible and reprehensible. I hope Debra, who has loved and worked with that breed during her life maintains a network with responsible breeders who produce working GSD lines for people who would like to compete in sports with them. If these types of networks thrive then healthier lines of the breed will also thrive. Great conversation.

I agree! And Ivan is such the confident and cool dude that he gets it!! That's insane that women had to deal with that ridiculousness.

Old school working dog trainers and handlers need to create an organization on an international scale that replaces the FCI as the guardian of the sport and our dogs. The FCI and the organizations under its umbrella have failed miserably and appear to only be concerned about the show ring and selling dogs at inflated prices.
