"Look beyond the obvious". That will be my mantra everytime I go hunting for images. Thank you. Great channel. Love the authentic delivery style. Thoughtful and heartfelt. Light years better than smug, preaching and endorsement photography videos. You truely have found your niche in amoungst the over crowded number of photography channels. Plus I love East Anglia and your locations are inspiring me to "get out and take photographs"

inspiring as always Andy. the treatment of the flag images at 3:45 is genius 🙂 the abandoned / washed up surfboard begs the question - where is the surfer?!!! just downloaded the DXO trial - thanks for the heads up!

Thanks, Nick. I was wondering about the surf board all afternoon myself and at the end of the day, it was apparent that it was part of the lifeguard's equipment who must have spent quite some time watching a weirdo prance around it with a camera.

A very interesting video. The things you say are useful. I like the abstract pictures in the square format. And black and white is what I like the most. You are becoming an instructor, my friend. Greetings from the Netherlands. Take care.

It's growing on me. Often, I can't see the value in some of these things. Like I said about the Nearly Award-Winning shot down the pier - I wasn't too impressed with it when I took it but it was good enough to be shortlisted in a national and (at the time) highly rated competition. So, what do I know?

I like the top down post. I have been attempting to capture the soul of an old cedar stump wrapped in chicken wire on the rivers shore. The light has not been exactly right yet...maybe today, trying is half the fun and adventure.

I am not sold on it. Without the processing, it was pretty poor IMHO.

“Look beyond the obvious”. I must remember that, thank you so much. I love your approach and the photographic results you obtain. I’m trying hard to develop a ‘creative eye’ and that’s possibly the most satisfying part of photography. I find it difficult at the best of times but almost impossible when accompanied. That’s a very adaptable tripod there Andrew and it seems to extend quite high, I assume it’s a Giotto but what model please? Many thanks.
@AndyBanner3 ай бұрын
Hi, Christian, Thank you so much for the comment. What is it you find difficult about being accompanied when out with your camera? Are you out with family? This is understandably difficult if they aren't into your hobby and/or need your attention. If you're out with other camera maniacs, chill a little! :-) The tripod in this video is a Giottos Silk Road model. Giottos no longer makes tripods (in any quantity), sadly. It's very adaptable indeed and I love these articulating centre-column developments. There are a number of other makers that do similar things these days. I reviewed a low-cost K&F tripod last year that has a transverse head that in many ways is better than the articulation of the Giottos. In other ways worse. If you're looking for something like this, the K&F Models are pretty good. I have only recently stopped taking my one out as a matter of course because I have been given a Freewell Carbon Fibre one that weighs almost nothing (review soon), but the K&F is a staple of my kit still. There's a number of different models that offer the articulation, this is the one I have: geni.us/KFTripod1 I have no reason to suspect that any of the others are made to any different standards. (Note, this is an affiliate link) . Hope this helps.

I really like all the shots in this video, Andy. I am finding that I am drawn more and more to a square crop. Are there any instances where you would not consider using it, or maybe I should say, what type of compositions work well with a square crop? Thanks again for the inspiration! Be well
@AndyBanner3 ай бұрын
Square crops work well when the boundaries of the subject fit a square but that's not every subject, of course. Also, because there's a very definite centre to a square, it can be more challenging to place something off centre. In our media these days, we're attuned to oblongs - mostly 16:9, so a square often looks different and more eye-catching initially too. Be well.

Fantastic photos but the just the board and the ocean was awesome. Its so simple and you're right, i would walk right past that shot, yet an awesome outcome. Wish i lived over there to learn this photography from you. Videos help but the in-person "Eric, you dumbass put the camera like this and this setting!"- helps more lol

Hi Andrew you almost got a reflection of the flag..., but personally prefer a panorama
@AndyBanner3 ай бұрын
Doug, Doug! Have you not been watching my videos? Whilst I have no desire to influence what you "personally prefer", my videos very rarely look at wide anything. Trying to get a big wide view of something can certainly work, but, frankly, any fool can do that. There's frequently zero composition and with any modern phone allowing you to do it in seconds, there's not that much skill either. Of course, getting a great one still takes a skilled eye and approach, but the whole point of this video is to help encourage people to look beyond the obvious - find a subject and work it.
@dougsphoto3 ай бұрын
@@AndyBanner Hi no I haven't been watching all your videos, but I am subscribed but maybe you'd prefer me to unsubscribe... in the mean time I agree every one should work the scene to find a different composition and not just the first one they found
@AndyBanner3 ай бұрын
Hi, Doug, I would be happy with whatever decision works for you regarding your subscription to the channel. You'll rarely see me take a wide view of anything unless it's close-up.
